I tried out the Striker Plus 7sv this afternoon.  After one outing, a few comments and thoughts to consider.

Yes it is incredibly easy to use, and effective.  You turn it on and go.

SI absolutely works at kayak paddling speeds.

The push button approach is intuitive but clunky by modern standards.  I would prefer touchscreen.

I thought all Plus models were touchscreen?

I agree with MN.  I compared specs and couldn't see a difference, aside from the color.

The colors look cool!  If anyone can tell us all what the practical advantage of the various colors are (aside from generating sales for Garmin) let us know!

I have used different colors for different light conditions.  The new colors really make subtle differences stand out.

No, definitely not a touchscreen.

That's very interesting.  They always come out with something good to make us want to upgrade.  Even if it is 4 weeks after a purchase of the last model.

On a rocking canoe - the touchscreen could be a pain in the butt...try to pick one thing, canoe rocks just as you're about to 'hit' it - you do something else. For that I think I prefer the 'old fashioned method'.

I guess it depends how rough the waters you fish are.  I've only compared them in a store display and based on that very non-representative experience, I would go with the touchscreen personally.

@Fishingmickey actually has one and could share his experience (not sure if it's in a kayak or canoe?)

I've got mine in my Hobie PA14. I do use the touch screen almost exclusively.

I just received the two $450 EchoMap UHD 73sv units I ordered from BPS about 10 minutes ago, the transducer was included with both of them. I would probably jump on that. On my 93sv, I use the shortcut buttons which I have programmed to the views I'm using 99%+ of the time and the zoom button and I do everything else by the touch screen

That was a good score.  They have shown as out of stock at BPS and Cabelas for days now.

On the bright side, I'd wager that they will also drop in price elsewhere over the Xmas period as the clearance becomes more widespread.

I didn't realize it was sold out - you have to look at the details listing. I ordered mine when I did because when they're gone, they might be gone for real. BPS already sold out of the 93sv, and I had been looking around for deals because sometimes I get better deals around October than I do on Black Friday and almost always I get better deals in early or mid December (some places jack up the prices in early November so they can say they discounted it, etc)

"If anyone can tell us all what the practical advantage of the various colors are (aside from generating sales for Garmin) let us know!"

I'm hoping they have a color scheme that I can see better than the usual fish finder options.

I'm seriously colorblind/deficient on most reds and a lot of greens and don't see a lot of many shades correctly. It runs in the family. For example, have you ever heard someone talking about off-white paint colors and this one has a touch of blue and that one has a little green, etc? I don't see it, never have. I'm lucky to tell the blue and black socks apart. Heck, I bought an old house once that had faint pink tile in the bathroom. I didn't know.  :)

I just now received a Vivid 9sv from Crutchfield the auto/home audio company in Charlottesville. They're a Garmin dealer. TW still shows OUT with no expected date for the 9sv and my 2014 Lowrance Elite 5 HDI is broken (random shut downs, locking up on one depth, and recently giving a reading of 124 feet in 9 feet of water) and the Garmin GT52HW transducer will fit on my old Maxxum 70 with a quarter inch or so to spare. I have enough to worry about without having to protect a transducer on the transon from all of the standing and not quite standing timber.

We will see.

The wife pulled a fast one on me...for weeks she kept saying, "we aren't getting each other Christmas presents this year...our trip to Arizona the first week of January is our present..."

Of course I ignored that declaration and got her a few gifts...trekking poles for our trip, fun/naughty socks ("I baked you a batch of shut-the-f$#K-up-cakes"), and a few other things, which shoe opened Christmas Eve.

Of course she gave me crap, "thought we weren't getting presents..."

Christmas morning her boys (18-16) were up early to open their presents...I walk out to find a Garmin fish finder on the fireplace : )

Very cool!

It is the Garmin Plus 4 Ice Fishing Bundle https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/735509/pn/010-01870-30. I'm likely going to exchange it and get the following:

Back of boat:  Striker 4cv

Front of boat, on trolling motor: Striker 7sv

Happy Christmas to all!

I've got the touchscreen on my Bonafide SS127 and use it a lot.  I have the four presets set to my favorites but usually only switch which view I'm using depending on the lake.  The only issue I've had with the touch screen is when I'm in the menu system and going through choices and adjustments quickly sometimes the system pauses while it catches up to me.

If I could go back I would go with the Echomap for the maps and the touchscreen.  But for the price, the Striker Plus 7SV seems to do the job well: beyond easy to set up and use, good quality images.

I love mine.  I have the 93sv UHD with the GT54 transducer.  I'm eyeing the GT56 transducer though.  I was looking at this or the Lowrance but the touchscreen and smaller transducer were the final factors.  Of course if I get the 56 the transducer size will go out the window.  LOL

Update: Wife and daughters got me a Garmin Striker 4 ice fishing bundle for Christmas. They said it was the only Garmin they could find at the time. I was very thankful!

Wife said it it wasn't the right unit, go ahead and return or exchange. Scheels had the Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 73sv with GT54 Transducer on clearance for $499...

I managed to snag one of the last three in the store.  They were going pretty fast.  Striker exchange was good for $250, so I had to pony up $267 out of pocket...

Glad I waited...Echomap and touch screen should be nice additions.

Appreciate all the advice!

I just got the 93 SV a couple weeks ago and I’m still getting used to it but I love it! Now I just have to wait for the ice to leave.

Keep a close eye on the Cabela's and Bass Pro web sites...I thought I had found a smoking deal...only to realize the item was not in stock or available on-line : (

Good luck!

I bought the 9" UHD and was tracking it when FedEx lost it at one of their hubs...instead of making FedEx replace it, Cabelas cancelled my order and told me I could buy it again at regular price.  I sent a note to the CEO....crickets...won't shop with them anymore!

Man, that sucks.  I have many friends who used to work at Cabela's...best buddy worked at HQ in Sidney, NE for 35+ years. He and his wife were let go when they sold out to Bass Pro.

I still have a lot of old Cabela's branded products, coats, Gore-tex, etc. It as GREAT stuff back in the day.

So Cabelas sent it out, FedEx lost it, Cabelas refunded your money.  Cabelas is out money, and you’re not, and you’re never shopping with them again? What am I missing here? ?
