got 1 of my lures this summer. Went from using a 5ft 6in rod to a 7 footer and the change in length messed me up and it bit me, i casted between the lines.

There's a small, public lake for bank fishing near me that has utility lines running over a fair portion of the water and it looks like that as well.

 

Maybe it's done by accident, or maybe it's a ritual sacrifice to the fishing gods.

There use to be cut off power lines on some old utility poles that ran across a pond I fish.  The poles were down and in the water the beginning of last year.  I'm not sure if the poles rotted out, or they fell from all of the fishing tackle that was hanging off of them

There's a lake near me that I swear if the power ever goes out, I'll be out there with my lure retriever cleaning them power lines off because they're sagging they're so loaded with baits.

That looks like an easy place to cast a lure. Fishing in a heavily forested area where you have less than 6 feet above and around you to cast is much more difficult. You can try casting lower and see if that helps.

yeah, looking at the power line pic looks like its an easy cast but in reality the power line from the culvert spot where the deep hole is angles towards the bank and to get under it with the bank being so high sidearm throws are the best way.

But to get distanceyou have to throw the lure just under the power line or it isnt going to makei it to the honey hole.

i fish in the wooded banks alot, fought with many tree limbs,branches,twigs,thorn bushes,burrs....

 

Caught all types of lures in the branches and spent time breaking branches just to get my lure down to untangle it.

 

Now that i got waders i can slip in through the brush and have  more freedom walking the shoreline in heavally overhanging tree areas but still have to beware of some limbs in swing radius.

When the white bass run down here happens all the trees along the creeks fill up with Roadrunners, Little Georges, Spoons and Grub Baits. Looks like Christmas trees.  Watch people fill up bags full of baits after the run is over.

I can remember as a little kid seeing  a power  line like that . If I could have figured out a way to get all the  bass lures dangling  tantalizingly  up there I would have . I use to do a balance beam act to get too baseballs .

I’ve got a lot of 6 ft rods, because our lake had many trees with limbs that loved lures. However, the Forest Service dropped the lake 5 ft., and now 7 ft. rods work a lot better.

a baitcasting reel would fix 75% of the problem, side arm casting would clean up the rest.

 

the lob from a spinning reel is rarely your friend.

We have a lot of spots like this. You have to cast side arm and keep it low and you won't have a problem, but every now and then I forget.
