Tim Kelly Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Does anyone know of a stockist of these hooks? Google is failing me! https://www.gamakatsu.com/product/jig-90-big-river/#product-variations Quote
Mat_ski Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Try some fly shops if you cant find elsewhere, search by sku. 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted November 15, 2020 Super User Posted November 15, 2020 Try Captain hooks discount warehouse. Allen Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted November 15, 2020 Super User Posted November 15, 2020 They are new and you can only get them direct from Gamakatsu right now. I emailed them to find out the wire diameter on that hook a couple weeks ago and still haven't heard back. I'm guessing that these aren't going to be available from other sources until sometime after January. The good thing is you can get them but they are very expensive. Quote

Tim Kelly Posted November 15, 2020 Author Posted November 15, 2020 Thanks guys. I've since found that mustad have a similar hook, so I've got a few of those ordered to see what they're like. If OK they should save me a few bucks over the gamis Quote
Super User Munkin Posted November 16, 2020 Super User Posted November 16, 2020 Eagle Claw makes those as well. Allen Quote
Tim Kelly Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 I've used the Eagle Claw ones for years but they're very variable. Lots of them are either mishappen or very blunt or poorly tempered. The first batch I bought were excellent, but subsequent batches have been poor, hence the search for a better brand. A size 2 is my go to for my Ned heads. Fish don't fall off the hooks. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted November 16, 2020 Super User Posted November 16, 2020 The Mustad 32500 is heavier than the Eagle Claw 500BP lil nasty. The Mustad version is a sickle style hook but it really is more like a hybrid between a round bend and sickle. The angles are a little more rounded so you have a little larger gap than the sickle. I have used a lot of the EC Lil Nasty and only had 2 that were bad, are you sure the place you got them from didn't sell you old stock Matzuo? I had a lot of Matzuo sickles that were bad, the worst batch was 311 out of 1000 that were unusable, 31%. I stopped using them until EC came out with their version. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 Captain Hooks. Not sure if they're unreliable. The first lot of black nickles were great, but the subsequent ones, which were bronze, were not. I've had the Matzuos before. they don't make a single hook that's worth wasting time on. Utter rubbish. Quote
