This is my favorite type, but Marie Sharps. Marie Sharp's various incarnations excel at both heat and flavor. I think the version I referenced above is the original. I did not know about Melinda's but I just learned through a quick search about controversy about how Melinda's developed from Marie Sharp's original. If you like vegetable-rich hot sauce give Marie Sharp's current version a try, you won't be disappointed. 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 17, 2020 Super User Posted November 17, 2020 I've had it. Not as readily available here as Melinda's. It's good, too, 2 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted November 17, 2020 Super User Posted November 17, 2020 I'm a huge chilehead.... My all time favorite hot sauce for virtually any use is between Heartbreaking Dawn's Papa Boi, Melinda's Red Savina, Marie Sharp's Hot Habanaro, Blair's Pure Death and Cajohn's Trinidad Scorpion - too hard to pick. For Mexican food, it's Heartbreaking Dawns 1542 (anything HBD is very good, many of them are geared towards a certain style of food) My favorite to make into wing sauce is HBD's 1841 ghost pepper sauce. My favorite to marinade a spoon or pork roast (back when I ate red meat) is Cajohn's Bourbon Chipotle Habanero, just throw it in the fridge in a zip lock back with the meat overnight and smoke with hickory or mesquite wood chips, easy way to impress your friends 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 17, 2020 Super User Posted November 17, 2020 Anything chipotle/habanero is good. Those two pair up so well. 1 Quote

dave Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 A couple of years ago I discovered Pho. I usually add too much sriracha. Even though I put in too much, I just keep eating. Quote

I used to eat a lot of their XXX-hot. It's carrot and onion based. My favorite Melinda's is the Red Savina, which is like the original in flavor but as hot as the XXXX reserve. I think the Extra Hot or Original is probably my second favorite. There are a couple of hotter ones in the habanero carrot line (XXXtra Hot and XXXX Reserve), but they have a little more vinegar and a slightly more bitter flavor - although still good. Marie Sharp's (the original Melinda's) is fairly similar too, the Hot Habanero is the rough equivalent to Melinda's original habanero. A local grocery store carries it, which makes me happy. I'd say you'd like the any sauces that I listed as my all around favorites in my post above (but probably all of them to be honest). 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 18, 2020 Super User Posted November 18, 2020 I'll keep an eye out. We have a family run grocery locally that has an impressive collection of hot sauce (as well as the most amazing beer and chip aisle), so I'll check there before trying to order. Quote

Steveo-1969 Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 I’ve always been a Tabasco fan but wished it was a little hotter. Enter Habanero Tabasco. My new favorite!!! Quote

hawgenvy Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 Only someone with Louisiana roots would have a silver Tabasco sauce holder. It's my wife's; she's from New Orleans. There is always Tabasco on our kitchen counter, right there with the salt and pepper. 1 Quote

It doesn't taste bad..but it doesn't taste really like anything. Tabasco is perfect if you want heat with the acid touch that the vinegar provides, so its perfect in stews, beans, meats, bloody Marys, where Tabasco adds brightness without adding excessive complexity. Some other sauces like siracha and Cholula have garlic and onion and other flavors that are not welcome in all circumstances (but are great in others). Some, like Catt's pickled pepper choice, have even more vinegar to heat ratio than Tabasco. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted November 20, 2020 Global Moderator Posted November 20, 2020 Tobasco is my favorite thing to dip fries in. Is that weird? 1 Quote

I dip my fries in hot sauce or ketchup mixed with hot sauce. I also like to have a small pool of hot sauce on my plate when I eat pizza. It’s there to dip the crust in before eating. Is that weird? 1 Quote
VolFan Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 I love hot sauce on pizza. I thought I was the only one... 2 Quote
