c17Lat Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 So the + terminal on my deep cycle battery pretty much melted and it took me a while to detach my TM from it because it was stuck. I have no idea how it happened while I was fishing but I need to get a new battery. After looking at the BPS brand batteries online, I didn't realize how expensive they were. So I'm trying to get the cheapest possible that will do the job. What would you guys recommend for a good 12 Volt? Does it have to be deep cycle for it to run well for the motor? Will a cheaper marine battery from the local auto store suffice, or should I got to BPS? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted May 31, 2009 Super User Posted May 31, 2009 Loose wires more than likely caused the problem. Keep then tight. The thing you need to pay attention to most is the reserve capacity or reserve amps. The more you have the longer the battery will last. I only run 180 or more. Your battery needs to be a deep cycle for use on a trolling motor. It will cost you about $100 +/-. Quote

Made by Excide also a very good name in batteries, theres a great article on them lightweight batteries seems u are paying for the weightlose more so then power/reserve so if weight aint a issue go with acid batteries or gel Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted May 31, 2009 Super User Posted May 31, 2009 If it had the stud and the lead post, just go buy an adapter that lets you put a stud mount on the lead post. Bad/loose connection is what caused your meltdown. Could have also been the criped on connector on you TM so be sure to check/replace that or you may do the same thing to your new battery. Quote
c17Lat Posted June 1, 2009 Author Posted June 1, 2009 here are some pix. The TM got me back to the ramp with it like this, but my dad said to throw it out. Quote
