I have one of those!   And it’s my most successful rod.  It’s brand new and in about a month - five trips, I have about 20 good bass on it.  I just got off the water. It happened again.  My hand went numb.  I think the rod is a bit heavy for finesse fishing.  It’s a spinning rod and I would constantly need to change hand positions to try to minimize the tingle. One finger in front of reel seat, move two fingers in front, three fingers, switch hands, etc. the grip at the reel seat was to thin for me. Compounded by the heavy weight forward rod.

as I was fishing I got a shipping notification. My new rod was at the house!  If my wife was home I would have begged her to bring it to me. Her eye rolling would have been worth it.

I just casted a lot in the front yard. No more hand numbness.  The rod is much lighter. (Both are MEDIUM action). The rod seat has a hump in the back that my palm rests on.  I love it already. I might need to go fishing tomorrow to slime the new rod!  Bonus! The shorter handle is more comfortable in my kayak.  I’m finally homing in on the type of rods I like. And understanding my own body and limitations and how I like to fish.

sucks I had to buy the wrong rod (for me) to learn the lesson. Btw, my buddy has the sane rod and he loves it. I’ll turn mine into an ocean halibut and lingcod rod where it isn’t so much about finesse.

the new one!

:thumbsup3:  What rod is it?  Years ago I got an Omen for cheap because the seller cast with one hand and the rod wasn't conducive for that.  Good thing I am a two-handed caster.   Grip wasn't only thin, but tapered smaller at the rear.  I tried a one hand cast with it.............once.  Once was enough.  Almost threw the rod along with the lure.

BTW, I don't need to be fishing for a hand to go to sleep.  Happens when I am in bed sleeping.

I would suggest both of you consider that you may be experiencing symptoms of carpal tunnel.

Rod, no. Reel, yes. The 50E Curado, 70I Curado, and any model of Revo I've tried pushes on a spot in my palm at the base of my thumb that makes my thumb go numb.

I'm 73 years old.  My body is pretty beat up from years of casting, hook setting, cranking, standing, riding waves and whatever else came with chasing fish.  I am still active and fish whenever I get a chance.   I have carpal tunnel in my right hand.  I worked on a computer too, so I can't blame it all on fishing.  Do not fish with anything that makes you go numb anywhere.  If your elbow hurts, rest it.  If cranking with one hand hurts, switch to the other hand.   Switching between a casting and spinning outfit helps.   Heavy rods and reels are tough on your body.   Try fishing with lighter tackle.   You may find you catch more fish.

You've got carpal tunnel my friend, I just had surgery for it September 2nd. Started out with my hands going numb while sleeping. Then it just got worse from there. Go get it looked at before it gets worse man. DM me for any more info.

My doc doesn’t think I have carpal...  but true, things could have changed. Hopefully my new rod mitigates the issue.

my hand activity is very varied and I do stretches. Maybe I should revisit the doc.  Thankfully none of my baitcast- rigs cause any numbness.

My hands sometimes cramp with spinning outfits with too small a grip. I put American tackle Aero seats on all my spinning rods. I like the build of that rod in your picture. Palm swell bit and the right sort of lure keeper in the right position. What rod is that?

Phenix Maxim.  It checked all the boxes.  Not overly expensive either.

I had a St. Croix Avid from about 15+ years ago and the hump on the reel seat would make my hand go numb.   It has since gotten much smaller but the old version just drove me crazy.

my hand would go numb and my arm also. I ended up having neck surgery and 2 vertabre fused together.

A year later i had bad elbow pain on my casting side and after numerous cortisone shots i had my outside elbow tendon reattached. A few years before that i had my inside elbow tendon reattached.

My shoulder hurt bad so i ended up having  3 shoulder surgeries, 1 on my non casting arm and 2 on my casting arm.

My knee hurt so i had knee surgery to repair cartlidge.

My back hurt real bad and had 2 back surgeries L5-S1.

After all that i feel fine now. Yeah i still get sore after casting all day but goes away after half a day of rest and exercising. Also i am learning to work top water with my other hand and casting and am doing better at it.

I now everyday for the past 12 years do yoga like stretches which take alot of time in the morning and workout my shoulders including all upper body and lower body with weights and rubber tubed resistance bands. All taught to me by my great therapists.

I am known as the 6-million dollar man.

I had carpal tunnel and tendonitis in the elbow from carrying heavy stuff around improperly as a carpenter. Hurt like hell to cast those silly pistol grip rods we used to fish with. I got 8 cortisone shots before finally going under the knife. Had surgery for both in 1993, and it has been pretty good since then.

No affiliation but I HIGHLY recommend these gloves for anyone experiencing any hand pain/carpal symptoms. Obviously, results will vary but they have made a world of difference for me even though I only wear them when I am typing for extended periods of time.

I have never had a problem with my hand going to sleep, but I had something wrong with my left hand caused from a lawnmower with a bad vibration that left me unable to make a first from around 2009-2011 or so. As a software engineer, I had to use a certain mouse that was long and flat and allowed me to palm grip it, and they cost $80 and never lasted that long. Fortunately, that has greatly improved and generally I haven't had any issues with any of my fishing rods.

My dedicated spinning Senko setup, Avid X doesn't put my hand to sleep but definitely hurts my hand. Kinda bummed because it's a great rod and I bought it brand new, but going to offload it soon.

i started using a ugly stick CARBON 6-6 medium fast tip rod with a pflueger supreme reel.

After trying different reels and rods this combo is so light in my hand i can controll my bait just like a concert conductor with his tiny wand stick can point and controll the bass section of the orchestra, see what i did there haha.

Even 1 ounce difference in reel weight makes a big difference to my wrist and elbow fatigue.
