keagbassr Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 I have two '8s' one on my 7-6 h/xf punching rod with 30lb.832 and one on my 7-5 h/f heavy+1 rod with 40 lb. Kk braid which i use for when i want a second frog or punch rig for the day. I'll add that i have 7's on my jig and frog rod however if I ever want/need to replace these I would choose between 7 or 8 based on the best deal i could find. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted November 10, 2020 Super User Posted November 10, 2020 I don't actually own any 8.1:1 reels, but I was going to buy one for frogs and jigs but I had a way better deal on the 7.3:1 so I went with that instead. Since then, I have added a few other 7.x:1 reels which is my go to for most applications. Some people primarily use 6.3:1 reels and for the most part that works too Quote

I'm thinking for now I can spool up #50 lb. PP on my only Fuego CT 8:1 and using either straight braid or adding a #12 lb. ~ #20 lb. FC / Mono leader would be good for most things. Ideally , I would like to add another Fuego CT and spool with #65 lb. braid and the other one spooled with #40 lb. braid (or straight #17 lb. ~ #20 lb. FC line) . Tough to have only one Fuego CT - right ? Quote

Mbirdsley Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 Jigs and Texas rigs while pitched, flipped or dragged. I only have one reel which, is a Johnny Morris carbon light 2.0 with 8:3:1 ratio. I love that reel. . I use this reel in both lakes and rivers. I do have 2 ( one is a extra )7ish gear ratios that I use for basically the same stuff. The one I use all the time is my Diawa tatula tv sw on my heavy flipping and pitching rig. I think next time I’d opt for the higher gearing if I had to buy them again slowest reel I have is 5:4:1 for cranking ( next crank reel I may go 6:4:1). The other 3 bait casters are 6:4:1 that I use for moving baits Quote
Blaine Donders Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 I have a couple. I use them for worms and jigs. Mostly TRig Quote
