Super User geo g Posted November 6, 2020 Super User Posted November 6, 2020 In south Florida they are predicting as much as 10" of rain this weekend from a T/S. On top of the 30" we got last month we are screwed for a while down here. Water bodies are at full pool already. The water district is moving as much water as possible. Levels will be high for quite some time, and fishing will be a struggle. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted November 7, 2020 Super User Posted November 7, 2020 Yeah our lake is full too. We got 28 inches in 2 days once several years ago , and it just got up almost level with our bulkhead area . Still way down from our house. Catfishing will be good though!! In my lake , the day or two after a rain can be good for bass. Quote
ArthurLK11 Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Alright so what are the best ways to fish post-hurricane flooded waters in Florida? Quote
Fishingmickey Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Hi Art, If it is the same as Texas, fish the new water. Newly flooded vegetation, tree's, brush, grass anything you'd consider a good hiding place for a Bass is IMHO the places to try. Maybe Capt. Phil will chime in with his recommendations, they gotta be better then mine. I haven't done a lot of bass fishing in Florida yet. Fishingmickey Quote
Captain Phil Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Years back Lake Okeechobee rose to 18 feet. We were catching bass in the parking lot at Slim's. You will do better in landlocked canals than in the big Lake or the Everglades. Fish where the fish can not get back into the flats or so far back in the weeds you can't find them. Look for current running. The fish will not be in the current, they will position themselves where they can dart out into the current when food comes by. Fish on the bottom with the current. If you have a spillway nearby, it should be good. You may catch a snook, which wouldn't be a bad thing. Quote

Down here in Florida’s shallow lakes I look for the shallowest, cleanest water I can find. Start at the back of any creek or inlet with current flowing into them as high water with current will move the bait fish into them. As far as lures in dirtier flooded water, for bottom contact plastics I use either black or june bug. For moving baits use big flashy spinner baits or bright colored (chartreuse, orange, chrome etc) hard baits. Every year Okeechobee will have high water at some point especially from later spring to late summer. I’ve been fishing that lake since ‘79 and it’s almost always the same. As you get farther north...Istokpoga, Toho, Keensville, Stick Marsh etc which all have more hard structure, I’d tweak my choices but what I’m looking for doesn’t change. Mike Quote

Find outlets where there is flowing water, even if its slow. Bass will stack up facing current waiting for bait fish to come through. 1 Quote
