diamond64 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I have a BassTender 11.3 and need some help with mine. Love the boat to out of except it seems to be nose heavy with out the gas motor on the back. Any tips, ideals or what ever would help. Would like to keep the motor off for pond fishing and use the gas motor on bigger bodies of water. :-/ Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted April 25, 2009 Super User Posted April 25, 2009 Here's one for all the "little boat" guys out there. It ain't the boat that catches the fish, it's the man that's in the boat. Years ago, when I was commercial lobstering, I owned what was known as "a slab". A slab is jargon for an old beat up inexpensive boat, usually an old Novi. Slabs could be bought cheap, they leaked, and were generally on their last legs. But, with some elbow grease, and a few dollars, they could be made into a reliable vessel. One day, a good friend, and fellow lobsterman said to me, "You do all right in that old boat." I told him, "Milton, it's the fisherman in the boat that counts the most, not the boat the fisherman is in." Milton replied, "Ouch!" Keep in mind, there are some days you will not be able to get to places the "big rig" guys can because of weather. But, there are places you can reach in a puddle jumper, that the big rigs can never go. Quote
bobafett Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I have a pelican 10' and need a trailer. anyone have any cheap ideas? Quote
Calcutta Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Two people that I know used a old cheap or free junky pop up camper. All they did is remove the camper part and was left with a decent trailor to modify. Quote
basswitch Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Mine was a gift from my fishin' buddy. I was gonna call her "The Perfect Girlfriend" but after a couple of times trying to get her backed down the ramp by myself, I ended up gratefully accepting help from guys who happened to be in the area and decided to change the name to "Just a girl" because I can do alot of things but it seems when I'm trying to back up the boat I'm just a girl! She came with a 5.5 horse Johnson, which runs good but takes a pressurized tank, and the tank that came with it leaks. So I just row for now. A guy at work is selling me his 50lb thrust trolling motor when I have the cash, but I don't right now. I want a cheapie loacator too, but until then I usually find fish ok, just not in any great number. Future plans include an inside and outside paint job, I'm thinking a dark purple (to match my car) above the waterline, an off white or grey inside, maybe a floor and some carpet, and of course good seats. The thing is, I never want to take time off fishing to do it! http://www.flickr.com/photos/twomoods/2804050973/in/set-72157603661252634/ Quote
Red Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 i took my 8 foot pelican out this past weekend for the first time. i have it rigged with the 30lb MK endura as well and man it was awesome! me and my buddy did just fine, the fishing wasnt very good but we had a blast. my only complaint is that the wind can be your enemy and there isnt alot of room for your gear, but we managed ok. i got some of those velcro deals made for the deck of a bass boat to hold rods and rigged them on one side to strap my rods in. i tied up the life vests and spare paddle under the seats so they are out of the way. it worked great and sure beats fishing from the shore. here is a couple pics. Dirtyeggroll Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Revive! Here’s my 10.2 Basshound I turned into a one man bass boat by adding a casting deck on the front. Its actually extremely stable and can do a whopping 6.1 mph with the 5.5 hp motor. I am thinking of maxing it out to a 7.5 hp just for fun since I can find them cheap around here. It has a 36-lb motorguide and Lowrance Elite 5 on the front. I can still fit it in the back of my truck and take to ponds or throw it on the trailer and hit up the local <350 acre lakes (it a bit heavy). Any thoughts on upgrading the motor? I can’t currently get it on plane with 5.5 hp. Quote

Super User Ratherbfishing Posted December 13, 2017 Super User Posted December 13, 2017 If you go to the Pelican Bass Raider thread, this should satisfy your desire for pics/mods/etc. I really like mine and use it at LEAST as much and probably more than my 17 foot boat. If you can't find a space to on the ample gunwale to place your scent/lures/etc , you are in dire need of corrective glasses. My largest complaint is its very limited number of "hardpoints" for securing cleats, transducers, etc. and that after a long day with my legs crossed, my knees start to kill me. The latter, I think, can be fixed if I raise my seat some. The former is suspect is engineered that way so the company isn't held liable for some of the excessive things people try to do. I've learned to store the boat at a "lean"on the trailer so that water doesn't fill up the inside after a hard rain or, worse still, seep inside the "shell" or "cavity" of the boat. There ARE plugs for draining the water but it takes a long time and you have to tip it on its end ( rather awkward-especially WHEN there is a lot of heavy water in it). Quote

Chiefrrs Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Hey small bass boaters! I just picked up a 8 ft Bass buster I think, I can’t tell because it was old. Had water in it but I stood it up and drained I think 98% of the water out, sanded the seat brackets and repainted the chairs. Adding a Minnesota 45 to it and I put in at 3/4 plywood floor that covers 90% of the floor. Does anyone know how to take the top off? I want to check the foam or add some new foam. Quote
Way north bass guy Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 12’ “tinny” with a carpeted, removable front casting deck, minnkota 40lb bowmount, a clamped on rear rudder made of plywood to keep the back end from swaying and an eight year old for ballast ? Quote
