libertatem in perpetuum Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 Hi everyone, new to the forum here. I purchased a 2017 tracker 175 txw earlier this year. Love the boat so far. Only had 25 hours on the motor, came with good electronics, and a power pole. Has been almost perfect for how and where I fish, except that I want to upgrade to a 24v TM. It currently still has the factory Minn Kota Edge 45 on it. I want to go ahead and organize the battery compartment on my boat to hold a third battery so at least I can swap to a fresh battery when my 12v system has smoked one during the day. The power pole pump currently sits where a third battery would normally go. I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to rig a third battery w/ the power pole pump without sacrificing a storage compartment. I know that the pump has to be moved, just can’t figure out the best place for it to go. Has anyone else ran three batteries and a power pole in a tracker 175? If so, how was it rigged? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Pics of current rigging attached. I will be cleaning up the wiring as part of this project. Quote
moguy1973 Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 Two 27 series trolling motor batteries will fit side by side where your green battery is now using this tray. I have it installed in my 2008 tracker that way for my 24v trolling motor. Should work for you fine too. May lose a little bit of room behind the battery towards the transom, but not too much. https://thmarinesupplies.com/collections/battery-trays/products/dual-battery-holder-tray Can find them all over the net for a little cheaper... Super User gim Posted October 27, 2020 Super User Posted October 27, 2020 The edge TM sucks, I can verify that. It was supposed to come on my 2015 boat and I told them no way, put a more powerful 24v bow mount on there. You are making the right decision on upgrading that. 10 hours ago, moguy1973 said: Two 27 series trolling motor batteries will fit side by side where your green battery is now using this tray. Maybe I am missing something but I don't see any space to either side of the green battery in the photo he's posted. This was part of the reason I went with a talon instead of a power pole. I didn't have room for the pump and a second TM battery. Quote
libertatem in perpetuum Posted October 27, 2020 Author Posted October 27, 2020 Thanks for the replies. Gimruis, you are correct that I can’t fit 2x group 27s side by side. I measured again this morning. I’m considering mounting the power pole pump to the outboard side of the inner, port-side, transom support. I would just have to move my onboard charger, but I’ll already have to relocate that for a three bank anyway. If I didn’t already have the power pole, I would consider a talon for the same reasons you listed. Hopefully someone will come along that has my same setup. 1 Quote
Super User GaryH Posted October 27, 2020 Super User Posted October 27, 2020 There is a solution but it's expensive "very expensive" 24V lithium battery. Aprox. $1600 Quote
Shimano_1 Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 Got a 24 volt edge on my rig and have had good results with it so far. May have to remove everything and evaluate if there's any room to be had in there. If not I'd say ur gonna have to use a rear storage box for the pump. I would think a 55 lb thrust trolling motor would do fine on that rig in all but really windy days. I'm sure there's a way to configure it all tho just be patient and figure it out! Good luck! Quote
moguy1973 Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 I guess I’m not familiar with what all is involved with the power pole installation. Is that the pump that says “Sportsman 8”? I wish I had my boat at my house and I’d take a picture of how much room I have with my 24 series starting battery and two 27 series batteries turned sideways. Quote
AmSO4 Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 This is what I use on 24V ultrex. I rarely use more than 20-30%. Easily enough power for 2 days. https://battlebornbatteries.com/product/50ah-24v-lifepo4-deep-cycle-battery/ Quote

What the pictures don’t show very well is the reservoir at the base of the pump. The reservoir is what takes up the most space and what you need access to check/ add hydraulic fluid. Quote

This guy only has a 12v trolling motor but his green battery is in about the same position as yours, and he has his other battery next to his PP pump. Would that work if you move the pump over on yours? Quote

I’ll take some measurements to verify. Thanks for the help. Quote
NoShoes Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 I got 3 batteries in my 2008 175. Lined them up long side to long side and they fit. Can get a pic if it helps. Quote
