MidwestBassAttack Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 Hey all - as cold weather sets in I decided to be adventurous and sacrificed one of my Curado K’s for the brass gear and pinion to replace the aluminum gear in my Metanium. This was my first DIY attempt with a reel and it was fun to do...however; the drag isn’t the same now...I have to crank it down so hard for there to be any type of resistance. A few clicks of the drag star loosens it so much I can just peel line off without resistance. Anyone want to offer suggestions as to what I may have done wrong or what the fix might be? Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 27, 2020 Super User Posted October 27, 2020 Did you use the drag washers or the key washer from the Curado K? Quote
MidwestBassAttack Posted October 27, 2020 Author Posted October 27, 2020 No. I only used the brass main gear and pinion from the Curado K. Quote

Super User fishballer06 Posted October 27, 2020 Super User Posted October 27, 2020 I had this swap done by a professional and I remember him saying he had to swap something with the drag as well in order to make it work. Quote
shackman Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 Make sure that your spring washers are like this () and not like this )) 2 Quote
MidwestBassAttack Posted October 29, 2020 Author Posted October 29, 2020 Got it all sorted out! Did another breakdown last night and cleaned/soaked everything in alcohol. Looked like I had grease on the main gear from handling. Thanks to everyone for your input, time, and advice. Quote
