Lead Head Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 Throw some 15lb braid on that thing and call it good. Grab a ML spinning rod of whatever quality you prefer and your in business. Only reason I upgraded from my super cheap setup was because I found myself grabbing and using it so often. That and I really wanted to build a spinning rod. Quote

Looks a little scuffed up, but my old Cardinal looks worse and still works great. Zooming in with my paint program - I called it right. On the spool it says '6/110' - so it'll hold 110yds of 6# test. Give it a good internal cleaning and lube and you should have a great little finesse reel. 1 minute ago, Lead Head said: Only reason I upgraded from my super cheap setup was because I found myself grabbing and using it so often. Ya...my original finesse rig was a Mitchell Avocet RZ-2000 on a ML Avocet rod ($40 from Amazon for the combo). Used it so much that I upgraded to a Pres-25 on a Fury 702 1 Quote

Could feel no knock nothing really .. palming reel with finger under line as my usual.. they were all dinks so guessing that’s why I felt nothing. I have a few set-ups for the ned rig. The one I use the most is a 6'6" Medium Fast St Croix Triumph rod paired with a Lew's Speed Spin HS20 reel spooled with 8# Vicious clear blue fluorescent mono (same diameter as most 6# line) I use the 1/10oz Z-Man Shroomz jighead and the Z-Man finesse TRD in green pumpkin. I like the heavier pole when fishing the bank. It is not uncommon for me to catch 4 pound Channel Cats and 20" Pickerel while using the ned. The medium action rod gives me the confidence I need to fight these larger fish. I watch my line the fluorescent helps see it. When I am not straight retrieving the bait, I keep the least amount of slack that I can when the bait hits the bottom. I find that I am able to feel a small bump when fish take the bait this way. There are and will always be times when the fish take the bait and you don't feel it until you move it. At that point I do a sweeping hookset. With the hook already being exposed that's all you need to do. Quote
superkamikazee Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 I usually bounce my neds off the bottom, so I either see the line move before I bounce the ned, or I feel a little resistance in the rod when I bounce the ned. It's been my favorite bait this year, with the texas rig style hook it's incredibly versatile. Quote
FrankN209 Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 I throw neds on my Pflueger Supreme XT on a Zodias 7'M rod. 15lb braid and leader if need be. Quote
TcRoc Posted October 28, 2020 Author Posted October 28, 2020 Took the reel out.. it works.. it is knocky sounding on retrieve kind of klunky. When I landed a bass that sound would go away presuming because of drag when reeling fish in.. so it works but 60 bucks on a prez 30 isn’t gonna break the bank. Quote
