Super User ChrisD46 Posted October 25, 2020 Super User Posted October 25, 2020 I fish mostly shallow (less than 15' ) and have just about settled in on 1/4oz and 3/8th oz. under spins with <4" swim baits or regular Fluke soft plastics. There are times to work it faster up in the water column OR work it slow along the bottom . Anything deeper than 15' or 20' feet I believe is reserved for 1/2 oz. weights and higher ... What weight under spins do you you prefer ? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 26, 2020 Super User Posted October 26, 2020 3/8 oz Sworming Hornet/ LFT Live Magic Shad Quote

NittyGrittyBoy Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 I love how you start off by saying, "I fish mostly shallow (less than 15') Sir with all do respect our definitions greatly differ on the term shallow. Nevertheless carry on..? 1 Quote

Nevertheless carry on..? It's not shallow until you have to trim the motor up here. 3/8oz with a 3.8 Fat Impact is my sweet spot for underspins. 4 Quote

Super User ChrisD46 Posted October 26, 2020 Author Super User Posted October 26, 2020 Thanks for the replies - LOL ! Yeah , perhaps best to have said "I fish depths usually less than 15' (in reservoirs that are 100'+ deep)" ... I suppose it's all relative . 1 Quote
Ktho Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 3/16th and 1/8th are my most used paired with a 2.8 and 3.3 keitech. Coolbaits is my go-to 2 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 My water on the Potomac averages 6' or less and i never go heavier than 3/16th. Now, if I go into the Occoquan River tributary and fish the interstate 95 bridge abutmants in 25 ft of water, that is a different story and out comes the 3/4oz. Quote

ike8120 Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 I started using 1/4 and 3/8 by Jacks Custom Baits. I mainly fish from the bank. Quote

Don’t have the 2.8, but gonna try the 3” Easy Shiner in a 1/4 oz guppy head next club tourney. The 3.3 Fat Impact looks to be a better fit though. Quote

Just need small jig heads. Anymore a 3.8 feels like a giant swimbait, at least where I am with threadfin being the largest baitfish species and lots of little smelts, shiners, and silversides the small baits get a lot of action.
