That's a 1.5 sized squarebill for scale. I guess the previous owner was a belt and suspenders kinda guy. 1 Quote
MAN Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 I took my BIL fishing and he put a zoom lizard 12" under a cork...in 16' of water. I think I was able to hold it in for 30 minutes before telling him his odds of catching a catfish on that rig was very slim. 1 Quote

For example I know people that catch bigger bass on hand lines than many people with expensive combos. Got spanked by a guy in a tourney once and he was in the middle of the lake dragging a carolina rig with about a 5 foot leader and a red and white lazy ike as the bait 2 Quote

Luke Barnes Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 I went fishing with my dad for the first time last year. He hadnt been in 30 years he said. He had a zebco 33 on a spinning rod. I get set up and start fishing and ask him what he is throwing. He reels it in and its a lipless with two big split shot above a snap swivel. I say uuhh..... He replies it helps it get down better. Its a 6 ft deep pond.... I just turn my head and chuckle. Quote

DaubsNU1 Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 Been fishing a relatively new reservoir here in Eastern Nebraska...have talked to lots of fishermen. Amazed to see what people are throwing... I like to stop and see if they are doing any good. When people ask what I'm throwing I always tell them and show my set up. Quote
mikey z Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 I had no idea what to buy when I first started back in late April of this year, so I ended up just grabbing a few things at Walmart that I thought looked good lol. I bought green pumpkin lizards, watermelon swimmin super flukes, green pumpkin senkos, red shad Culprit ribbontails, some baitholder hooks, and very light split shot weights. So basically, a mojo rig, with either the culprit worm or the swimmin fluke. I rigged them on to the baitholders with exposed hook point. I kinda killed it for a newbie! Not to mention, my 6 year old son caught 3 small largemouth with a tiny Creme mini-tail tube casting near a drain pipe our very first day. This was before I even casted, while I was still rigging my stuff. He was already whackin' em, no lies! 1 Quote

The belt is there to hold things like knives or pouches. The suspenders are there to hold the pants up. The arrangement is especially kind to the back since the belt can do it's job without being tight. Don't let fashion snobs tell you how to dress for the outdoors. 3 Quote

My grandfather owned a garage and had a barrel of old spark plugs. I took several of them to use as weights when I was a kid and didn't have much money for tackle. They worked better than having no weight at all, even if they were not all Champion brand ;~) On 10/27/2020 at 4:16 PM, Bird said: We actually used starters off 350 engines as anchors growing up. I could care less what some sponsored fisherman or the majority of the crowd says when it comes to what I wear when I go fishing. I dress the way I want and fish the way I want. So far it has worked very well for me. 1 Quote

Super User GaryH Posted November 6, 2020 Super User Posted November 6, 2020 Well around 30 years ago my bf and I went fishing with his dad at a local lake. His dads b-day was the day before and his daughter bought him a brand new fishing chair with it's drink and rod holder. He had his new sun glasses his wife bought him and new rod. He got his chair all set up and opened a can of beer for his cup holder and proceeded to call us a couple of rednecks because of the way we dressed. He sat down in his new fancy chair and his first cast with his new rod ended with him face down in the lake. He evidently had the two front legs on the edge of a big rock. He came up out of the water with a barrage of four letter words. Then he noticed his new sun glasses were missing and that really set him off. But the funniest part was he hadn't noticed that he also lost his upper dentures when he hit the water. We laughed so hard I thought we would tick ourselves. To this day whenever we see someone fishing from a chair we remember it and start laughing. My bf actually told this story during his dads eulogy. We sure miss him. 1 Quote
