Ky_Lake_Dude Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I know this is a ripoff of sweet beavers but the closest store that sells sweet beavers is about 45 minutes away and there are a good selection of these at the sporting goods store 5 minutes from my house. Are these just as good? Quote
Guest ncbass24 Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I can't say how good they are compared to sweet beavers because I've never used sweet beavers. However, the Yum Wooly Bug has been a solid producer for me on a split shot rig (mini c-rig) in the spring and summer months. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 29, 2007 Super User Posted July 29, 2007 Beavers and Wooly Bugs are a completely different animal so they are not a rip-off, they don 't even look a like; wooly bugs are quite good baits and very productive, my only beef with them is that they are quite light and take ages to sink with a bare hook, split shot rigged like Ncbass suggested is a great way to fish them, you can also T-rig them with a bullet sinker or with a weighted hook to increase the sink ratio or reverse T-rig ( inserting the hook between the tails ) adding weight with a nail weight in the head, they also work on shakey heads or plain jigheads. Super User grimlin Posted July 29, 2007 Super User Posted July 29, 2007 Nothing wrong with them....you can fish them just about any way you like.Personally i like them with a skirted jig. Quote
mattm Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 As Raul said the wooly bug is not a beaver rip off. Only similarity is the craw looking things at the top. I've purchased five bags of them or so and don't personally like them at all. Yum does make a true beaver rip off but I forget what they call them. They work great though, no noticable difference that I can tell. Lake Fork Tackle also makes a beaver rip off called a flipper that is garlic scented that I like. I haven't tried *** beaver type bait yet, but if it works as well as everything else of theirs that I have tried their good. Between all those companies you should be able to find some beaver type bait that you'll be happy with. Quote
