I am planning on renting a boat at Quachita Lake in Arkansas next weekend.  They have two options, a 16 foot boat with a 9.9 hp motor or a 16 foot boat with a 15 hp motor.  Will your average 16 foot boat get up on plane with two people and gear with a 15 hp motor?  What about just one person?

The 9.9 motor and boat is 60 dollars per day and the 15 hp motor and boat is 70 dollars.  Is the additional 5 hp worth the extra 10 bucks?

See if they have a 25 for another few dollars more.

Without a doubt at least the 15.   Unless you load it pretty heavy, it should get up and go ok, probably about 20 mph it proped right.

It depends, if you got a big lake and you have to travel a long distance between one spot and another those extra 10 bucks will take you faster, you 'll be able to fish more locations and you won 't loose fishing time in transit between one spot and another, given the fact that it 's a rental you can squeeze more for your bucks.

Is there a trolling motor with the boat??? The lake that rents boats where I live don't come with a trolling motor. To me, that is pretty important, depending on what you are fishing for.

I would go with the 15.  You can always throttle down, but you can't go faster with a 9.9.

I don't think they have trolling motors on the 16 foot rental.  They have nice bass boats for rent but at like 175$ per day, it's outta my budget.

However I do have a little 30# motor guide transom mount tm that I use on the jon boats here at home so I'll be sure to take it.

I'm beginng to want a 14 foot general purpose boat that I can fish from really bad.  I'd like to have between a 25 and 40 hp motor and have a set up that is reliable as the sun.

In the meantime, I am going to get for father's day, one of the bass pro shops fishing float seat things.

We have a 14 ft Lund with a 20 horse motor. With two on board I have to use around 3/4 throttle to get up on plane, so I would think 15 hp is the way to go to give you the zip you need to get up on plane.
