Throughout the years I have fished with lots of friends, some are very reliable others are not. Fishing friends are easy to make especially when you know how to fish and can prove it. With that said I prefer fishing with my Wife since she is the most reliable and trustworthy person I have fished with.

For tournament fishing I have a trusted friend and partner. but for everyday relaxing fishing my wife is always my go to partner.

My dad said one time that bass fishing is work. That's how I think, so I fish by myself most of the time.  It really doesn't bother me since a lot of my friends either want to cast out a bobber and take a nap, or consider a boat to be a floating bar.

I hear what you’re saying, but I gotta tell ya, if there was saltwater flats fishing anywhere near me, I would almost never fish for bass.

100%

Bass fishing is not relaxing.  It's a lot of work getting to the lake at daylight, running a trolling motor all day, and all the up and down and casting and pitching.  And as I get older I am realizing that small things like getting a good night sleep, wearing comfortable running shoes, making sure to lean on my butt seat, and eating correctly are very important in order to feel as good as possible when fishing. I'm not complaining in the least because the enjoyment and satisfaction I get from it far exceeds the work that it is but it definitely not relaxing.  Going away for the weekend and coming home late on a Sunday night and going to work the next day is becoming more and more difficult.

In my neck of the woods on the gulf coast of Mississippi salt water fishing is king. You can fish off the piers that dot the entire coast with catches of reds, specks, flounder, sharks and other various species. Nice catches, too.

There are flats boats and skiffs being used in the shallows targeting mostly reds and speckled trout in the numerous marshes. Sometimes largemouth bass in the brackish waters ...

Boats are docked that are used for deep sea fishing. Tournaments with significant prize money are common.

Now that doesn't mean there are not many private fresh waters and public in nearby locations that have bass fishermen fishing those waters but not near as many as the salt water.

I've done brackish saltwater fishing before for the bass and thoroughly enjoyed it. It exposes you to fishing the tide and the many twists and bends of a marsh. If you are looking for fast action, the marsh is the place to be.

90 percent of my fishing is done in fresh water now for the LMB in private and public waters. There are state waters that offer good bass fishing that also include recreational boaters but there are no fishing only lakes where outboards are not allowed provided by the state without having to drive about an hour and half and up one way ...

To each his own ...

good fishing ...

At this time I do not fish tournaments but agree that a trustworthy person is needed to be your partner. You need to be able to read a persons true intentions since there are too many greedy people that want to be your friend just to post pictures on social media to get likes and follows.

thats why i fish by myself. get tired of dealing with guys who cant do an activity with out a beer

The more mature a man gets the more he realizes he does not need alcohol to have fun. I have met young men that are very mature and middle aged men that drink like they think they are a college student in a party.

I have fished in little mountain rivers all the way to deep sea fishing over 100 miles from the shore and I still enjoy fishing for bass. I have friends that look down on bass fishing and I do not care what they think since I still enjoy catching bass and other freshwater fish.

No flats fishing nearby.  I do inshore fish for snook, roosterfish and jacks.  Salt water fishing here is expensive.  I can't afford to go very often for fun.  The last time I went out with a friend on his boat for an overnight offshore trip, the cost of my share of fuel, ice, and bait was over $700.  Usually we would offset the cost by selling most of the tuna we caught, but we decided to donate the fish to the local people that are getting hit hard in these challenging economic times.  I can do an overnight camp trip at my favorite bass lake for under $50.

I work as the captain of a 75 foot private sport fishing yacht.  Maintaining a boat that size is a full time job.  Most years the owner of the boat would have me taking his friends fishing off shore giving me no time to fish myself.  Because of Covid I have some more time to fish.  I prefer to bass fish because that is what I grew up doing, and there is some very excellent bass fishing here.

Every year for 35 years I was fortunate to make the trip from Balboa Island to Cabo San Lucas off shore tuna in October and Marlin fishing along the Pacific side if Baja Calorina, about 1,000 miles.

We made 1 trip from Cabo to PV. Always wanted to fresh water bass near PV at Agua Milpa or Cajon De Pena.

If I was younger and if my son was still living wewould make the trip and fish with you.

Tom

PS, the off shore fishing along the Baja coast and Magdelina bay is something I will never forget. Frigit birds circling, blue water with giant schools of Dorado, giant tuna crashing baitfish and fast feeding marlin jumping plus the sun sets with green flash..

Much prefer to fish alone, like the peice.

Never in my life have I mixed fishing with alcohol hence the reason I fish alone.

Love my friends but no beer coolers in my boat.......yes, fishing is fun but take it serious.

I think that is one of the great things about fishing, there are so many ways to do it. Everyone will have a different level of commitment or a different way they do it. Neither is right or wrong, just different.

To each his own.

I grew up a stone’s throw from the Chesapeake Bay and 3-1/2 hrs from the Atlantic. When I was younger rockfish (stripers) and bluefish were kings in the Bay (along with crabs lol) and flounder, sea trout, cobia, drum, dolphin, tuna, etc. were near or offshore. I still preferred fresh water and bass in particular.

Why is a good question. I guess part of it is that I prefer the atmosphere that fresh water provides more than brackish or saltwater does. I love being on still waters surrounded by trees, using lighter tackle and the sights and smells that fresh water fishing provides more than salt. The quiet, the solitude, the peace...broken by the jump of a big large or smallmouth bass.

To each his own. To me, that’s fishing.

My grandson has been my main fishing partner for a few years now. We're both serious bass fisherman. He works part time now, and is busy with school also, so, I fish alone or with an older friend on weekends sometimes. We drink water in hot weather. Water and coffee in colder weather. We aim to catch bass, and always focus on the fishing first.

In California, having alcohol in your boat is the same as having it in your car. I have no desire to do either.

I have fished all day without eating a thing because "I didn't have time to eat". Sometimes I wouldn't get a nibble all day, but still didn't want to take the time to eat anything.

If I fish with someone else, I adjust my expectations accordingly. Very few are quite as serious as I am about fishing, some not serious at all. If someone just wants to get hammered, they can do that on their own time and dime.

I have fished in the ocean for over 20 years. Have caught many saltwater fish that most would consider fish of a lifetime and I still love to fish for bass and other freshwater fish. To me there is something special about fishing for bass and I hope to continue bass fishing for several more decades.

I fish alone most of the time.  I like it that way.  To me, fishing is about connecting with nature and getting away from the hectic city life and all of its associated stressors.  It's a form of peaceful meditation.  I'd be okay if I found like-minded people to enjoy it with, but honestly, fishing isn't a social activity in my mind.  I do other things to fulfill my social needs.  And it's important for your mental health to be social (though everyone has different requirements for that).  But I tend to seek out engagements that are more based on being social, like having a BBQ, going to a bar, watching a game, etc. when I'm looking to fulfill my social quota.  You know, events where being social is the goal, rather than just a distraction.

It's tempting to combine the things you like to accomplish more goals at once.  But the usual outcome is compromise and dilution, rather than efficiency.  In life, it's better to clarify your goals and sharpen your focus towards them rather than meander about while only paying half attention.

My sister-n-law wondered to my wife a few years ago why she wasn't mad when I went away on fishing trips.  She had this mistaken notion that we were staying up late, drinking, and doing all sort of hell raising.  My wife laughed and said how we might have a beer or two but we are going to sleep early since we are waking up at 4 AM to fish all day.  My wife knows the work it takes to fish all day.   Hell, I rarely drink a beer on tournament weekends.  Now once I get home that is a different story.  Other people don't know.
