Southcoast Bassin Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Just bought these 2 rods Was hoping to use them both for bottom contact Jigs and Worms but also the ability to use the 844 MBR for Swim Jigs and 1/2 ounce Chatterbaits and big spinnerbaits along with 3/8 ounce jigs and Texas rigs. The 854 JWR would just be for 3/8 to 1/2 Jigs and Texas rig Creatures ..also 7”to 10” inch worms. Both with 14/16 lb flouro. This way it gives me some versatility... I find that using a more parabolic rod Jig fishing smallies and Largemouth in open clear water I have a tendency to lose less fish considering the way they fight. Like to get some thoughts from guys who own them? I’m hearing good things about the GLX MBR line. Just want to confirm Thanks and Tight Lines ! 1 Quote
waymont Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 GLX MBR is a great rod for all if these presentations: Jigs T-Rigs swim jigs Spinnerbaits Chatterbaits Whopper Plopper Belly weighted hook/Swimbait combo 3/8oz and up Over all a pretty excellent rod. Get an 853 JWR, and a 852 JWR and you can do just about anything. 1 1 Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted October 16, 2020 Author Posted October 16, 2020 Thanks for your insight... Im currently looking for another MBR 843C ... thinking that I can use it with smaller 1/4 ounce finesse jigs and worms and again also for Smaller 3/8 chatter baits and spinnerbaits. I do have a GLX 803C JWR .. I plan on using it for skipping 1/4 ounce finesse jigs..worms and Senkos around banks and docks. Im thinking other than my 852 S spinning set up.... that should cover it ! fingers crossed ..LOL Im tired of having 10 baitcast set ups. I sold everything and dropping down to 4 with quality over quantity.... 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted October 16, 2020 Super User Posted October 16, 2020 I have 6 MBR rods ( glx, conquest) and totally love the flex pattern. Truth be told, I could fish them for every technique if I had to. I believe I put more fish in the boat with them..... 2 Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted October 16, 2020 Author Posted October 16, 2020 Has to be something to a more parabolic rod .... Im certainly no expert but my thought is it’s allot tougher to throw a hook with a rod that flexes VS a rod that’s stiff. Quote

I did the same as you a while back, and sold off a bunch of middle of the road stuff, and bought nicer stuff. I however, have also completely gotten into using 852 JWR rods, 20lb braid to 10-12lb leaders. They can also do anything that's lighter weight. My favorite unweighted 5" and 6" stickbait rod. 2 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted October 16, 2020 Super User Posted October 16, 2020 MY NRX 852 gets the call for my lightest BC baits.....Heck, I use it for NECO's 1 1 Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted October 16, 2020 Author Posted October 16, 2020 Appreciate your input guys ...! I feel great about my decision. Need a little more help. because your very familiar with the rods I have to ask what reels and weight reels seem to balance out the best with them ? I understand that reels have allot to do with personal preference but I also do think that certain weight and types reels do a better job with different brand rods. Whats your thoughts on reels for them ? Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 17, 2020 Super User Posted October 17, 2020 I think you can use both for all of the applications you mentioned. I have the 853 and the 844. The 844 is probably the more versatile of the two. I use it for jerkbaits and topwater/frogs. Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted October 17, 2020 Author Posted October 17, 2020 Appreciate the insight thank you Lots of guys switching to parabolic actions for Jigs specifically. Bass have a difficult time throwing the hook using a rod with that MBR action. Quote
rangerjockey Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 I have the GLX 844 and 853 also. The 844 has a Curado E and the 853 a Curado 70. If your used to Falcon you should be comfortable with the MBR action. 1 Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted October 17, 2020 Author Posted October 17, 2020 Thanks for insight. I agree with you... picking up the MBR’s feel like a bit more balanced and sensitive version of a Falcon. The handles are more comfortable as well. Thanks Quote
lunkerboss923 Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 Probably the only 2 rods you'll need baitcaster-wise. I think adding an 852S JWR could quite possibly be the only 3 rods you'd ever need. Throw a jig and worm with the 854c, moving bait with the 844c, and top it off with the 852S for finesse. Quote
