Went out ice fishing today...it was sunny 45 with no wind and it was actually very pleasant. There was a good 3-4 inches of slush on top and the ice was varied in depth in certain areas of the pond we fished.

I’d like to feel bad for all you southern guys that haven’t had the best bass fishing weather the last few weeks, but I just spent 3 hours this afternoon snow blowing my house and shop driveway, and I also shovelled 2’ of snow off my boat shed roof. Guess it’s gonna be a bit longer before I’m boating anywhere

It's been in the upper 30's here the last few days. We've had 40" of snow in the last 4 weeks. It was 37* when I went to work and 40* on the way home. A little slice of heaven. Snow is melting slowly but surely.

You remind me of me. Gimme the 40 degree day where most people stay home

Yeah, the forecast is sounding really "peoply?peoplie?", outside Saturday. I might have to just change it up and chase catfish and hybrids with shad instead of bass. I get anxiety just thinking of playing bumper boats trying to get on the halfway decent spots when all the fairweather fishermen show up.

Our snow pack is down to about 8-10”, which is great. The only problem now is it starts to melt during the day then refreezes at night. What’s wrong with that you say? At work we walk through this stuff all day long and the refreezing creates a crust on top strong enough to hold your foot up until you put weight on it, then it gives way like a trap door. This makes walking extremely difficult and extremely slow! We went from 2 feet of fluffy powder snow to walk through and now with have 8 inches of crusty crap that’s just as bad!

Hopefully it’s all gone by the end of the weekend.

Yup ~

We wear Kahtoola MICROspikes  during this period.

Feels like walking on the moon ~

And don't forget . . .

"Mud Season" is just a few short weeks away.

Yak Trax are standard issue here at my company.

The construction sites I’ve been to this week have been mud pits towards the end of the day. Mud Season is not pleasant that’s for sure. Not as bad anymore since we moved to the lake and a paved driveway.

Was warm again today so went for a drive. River looks open but guys are still ice fishing on the lakes. If the weather is decent tomorrow, might put the kayak into the river.

Warning - warning

We're predicted to get up to 7" of snow tonight and tomorrow with a quick moving system. All those east of us...batten down the hatches.

So you're saying I need to get out earlier in the day...

Correction, just checked the weather. Wind looks stupid tomorrow.

It’s snowing here this morning. Expected to accumulate to about an inch or so. Starting Tuesday I see nothing but highs in the 40’s and potential 50 the following week. A lot of snow melted here the last few days too.

Spring is on the way.

Ya, the original forecast is a bust - it's just flurries around 'Tonka.

For all my fellow Northerners, we can rejoice---tomorrow is the first day of spring!

"meteorologists recognize March 1 as the first day of meteorological spring, which is based on annual temperature cycles and the Gregorian calendar."

I look out the window, and it is still snowing, freezing, the wind is blowing at 15mph, and the local lakes still have a foot of ice.

Quite obviously, meteorologists know something I don't.

Three different 'spring' dates

Astronomical Spring - based on position of sun against background stars: Feb 2

Meteorological Spring - Weather cycle: March 1

Calendar Spring - Vernal Equinox...which is astronomical mid-Spring: March 20-22

Well, it ended up being pretty normal for snow here even if it was warmer than average...so lakes, streams, rivers should have normal levels from the melt that's already started a bit.

wouldnt surprise me If it rained all week. The only way we get sunny skies that many consecutive days would be if they were calling for rain

we were supposed to get 5 inches of rain during the elite event and I’m guess we got 1 or less
