TNBankFishing Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 Good afternoon! I may be gifting my 6'10 MH Zodias to my brother in law as a Christmas gift and was looking at a few rods and wanted everyones thoughts. I fish from the bank or kayak and anything I load up needs to pull double or triple duty. I want to step into a Megabass Destroyer or P5, or similar as I've been impressed and happy with all my Megabass rods. For US Destroyer I was looking at the Daemos, P5 the Madbull. The GLX 844C MBR is also looking great, because well... GLX. I don't know if the IMX Pro would be just as good for moving baits. I've never fished a G Loomis rod. I own a Otomat, FMJ, and Perfect Pitch, and love them, but I'm willing to branch out. It would be paired with a Curado DC. Quote
Spy Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 An MBR is about as close to a Swiss army knife as you'll find on the water. The rumor is that the IMX Pro uses the previous generation GLX blanks so I think that about says it all plus the reel seat is of the old design and preferable to the one used on the latest get GLX. Fishingmickey Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 Kistler Mag2 6'10" MH/F is my weapon of choice for spinnerbaits. I like the fatter Winn Grips for keeping a firm grip on the rod while working the spinnerbait. It is short and accurate enough that I can roll cast it very low to get under overhanging trees and under most docks. It's just long enough to get around the bow of my kayak if needed. I'm using a Metanium HG and it balances well with that rod. FM Quote

That is interesting ? might need to a harder look at that line. 5 minutes ago, Fishingmickey said: Kistler Mag2 6'10" MH/F is my weapon of choice for spinnerbaits. Fishingmickey Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 I'd love to have a Zbone. But I find it really hard to justify even at 35% off. I've lusted for one for years. I had/have carpel tunnel issues when I throw the spinnerbait too much. I prefer a 1/2 oz bait with double willow leaf blades. It gives me a ton of thump and it has a lot of resistance in the water. The normal diameter cork grips make me strain to grip the rod tightly enough to be able to work the spinnerbait like I would like too. The fatter Winn grip really makes a difference for me. FM Quote
Super User FishTank Posted October 15, 2020 Super User Posted October 15, 2020 I have the 844C GLX and the 783C GLX (both the older versions). The 844C is a great rod but to me it's too stout for most chatterbaits and buzz baits. The 783C on the other hand is perfect and is also great on a kayak. The shorter length just seems to work better for most baits when I am out on the water. As far as, what you can do with this rod, just about anything. I have used it for T-rigged soft plastic, spinner and chatter baits, and, my favorite, jerkbaits. I use the 844C for bigger topwater baits, big jerkbaits, and jigs. Quote
Dens228 Posted October 15, 2020 Posted October 15, 2020 I throw spinnerbaits and chatterbaits on my Orochi XX Spec R. I use my Perfect Pitch for buzzbaits. Quote

Do you think the Daemos could also throw the buzz? I've been interested in the spec R but its been out forever. I also prefer the more moderate tapers on these moving baits. Its why I was interested in the madbull vs the dark sleeper in the P5s. I love my PP, not tried a buzz in it. Quote

I usually only use moderate tapers with treble hook applications. Quote
TimTheGearNerd Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 I might be too late ! @TNBankFishing what did you end up getting ? I have the Daemos, and I fish off a Hobie PA If your buzz bait weights more than 1/2 oz forget it, Daemos feels overpowered from the yak. I threw a 1oz buzz and while I could do it I didn’t enjoy it. Stick to 1/2 or less on any spinner/buzz/chatter/swimbait. That’s the ideal size for Daemos. I did get a lighter chatter bait just to try on my Daemos. I usually fish 3/4 oz chatter + trailer. If total Chatterbait+lure weight is 1/2 oz then the Daemos is ok. I have a falcon lowrider cranker 2, 7’6 mod fast MH. And I prefer to throw my chatterbait/buzz bait on that. 1 Quote
TNBankFishing Posted December 16, 2020 Author Posted December 16, 2020 I did receive the rod and have had a single day on the water with it. I don’t know if it’s enough to really judge performance as the bite was tough. I can comment that the handle length is perfect for the kayak. My current favorite handle on a casting rod is my Wild Bunch as the diameter is slightly more narrow than my Otomat or FMJ. If you like the US destroyer ergonomics you’ll be right at home. Comparing the Javelin to a FMJ isn’t really apples to apples, but I believe with the way it handled it will do very well in the 3/8ths oz plus trailer range for jigs. It transmitted composition readily and felt great moving into and out of cover. The length helped pull jigs up and through without snags when I was pitching. For reaction baits it’s a dream. I think it can handle the half ounce baits, but adding big trailers stress it. I would say a stealth blade and Zako is totally fine. When I tied on a full size half oz jack hammer with a zako it stressed it a bit. For that size I turn to the wild bunch. I used a Curado MGL with 15 lb flouro as the reel/line setup. Balance was good and it didn’t feel tip heavy. Not perfect, but a 7 or 8 out of 10. It is a 7’5” rod so balance is tough. After I hit the water a few more times and actually catch more than a couple dinks I’ll update this again. Quote
