Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted October 15, 2020 Global Moderator Posted October 15, 2020 I’m sure these guys will somehow find something but I’m hearing the fishing is terrible right now. If this tournament was in winter, it could take 100 lbs to win 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted October 16, 2020 Author Global Moderator Posted October 16, 2020 For those folks always saying finding the bait is the key to bass fishing, please watch this live coverage. Davy Hite was just reporting live from a giant school of threadfin shad and said “these shad in the hydrilla are why the fishing is so tough” and buddy gross was fishing amongst a huge school of bass blowing up shad and couldn’t catch a single one. The leader has 13 lbs on one of the greatest fisheries in the US. Every competitor is talking about how tough the fishing is in fall because of all the shad 1 1 Quote
BassNJake Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 I never really saw schools of shad until I moved to TN. It's impossible to explain how many shad there are and how big some of the schools are. I was in the back of a cove one year and the last 100 yds of the channel every sq inch of the surface was covered with 3/4 inch shad. I'd toss my toad and they'd act like asian carp jumping all around the whole retrieve. I threw everything, tried every trick, tried all types of baits with no results. (every cast with a treble hook bait came back with shad stuck to the hook points) Actually, my best luck is targeting the points/breaks of the channels outside of where the shad are. I cant compete with the 999 trillion shad so I'll try and pick off the ones coming to the buffett or looking for a little dessert after they have left the gorge fest 3 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted October 16, 2020 Super User Posted October 16, 2020 You guys ever try to catch em when they're bustin up on shad? You see the water boiling and shad jumping and you try to get a bait in the middle of it before it stops. You've got maybe three seconds but if you can get it there in time, you're almost guaranteed to catch one. It's exciting and frustrating at the same time. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted October 17, 2020 Author Global Moderator Posted October 17, 2020 19 lbs is winning now, finally someone got on them Quote
Super User scaleface Posted October 18, 2020 Super User Posted October 18, 2020 I'm at Lake of the Ozarks right now . The entire cove I'm staying at is covered with shad in the evenings . During the day the depth finder is lit up with shad . I'm catching a few decent fish up a river where the shad are not so prolific . Quote
RichF Posted October 18, 2020 Posted October 18, 2020 The pros don't seem so invincible when they're fishing outside of the Pre-spawn/spawn window! I'm rather enjoying this tournament, haha. 3 1 Quote

I would like to see a fall tournament or two every year . 1 Quote
Tlauz Posted October 18, 2020 Posted October 18, 2020 I believe I have read on this site, that anyone can throw a wacky worm and catch fish. Someone should tell these pros. (sarcasm). I enjoy watching them make decisions when it is tough. 3 Quote
redux Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 Interesting to see these pros stacking the same kinds of weight normal fisherman do on normal days. I wonder how much of this is a result of all the additional pressure that lake has been getting the past few months and how much is fishing a outside the peak times. 2 Quote

Seems like action is picking up as a tournament goes on, but that place is beyond pressured Quote
Coolangler101263 Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 I dont think this is the right topic to ask but when is the next fishing tourniment in Rhode island if they have one soon Quote
