Hey man, I have a question that maybe you can shed some light on.  If not maybe a few of our members have some insight.

I realize that you are a touring professional and that there is a huge difference in what you do and what the "popular YOUTUBE fishermen" but over the past couple of years, I've noticed a few if not several popular content providers have picked up and moved to other areas of the country.  Can you shed some light on the demands of some these partnerships that would require someone to move or otherwise make some life changes.

I think alot of younger anglers believe if you are catching them enough that some "sponser" is just going to throw you some cash and free product and that's all there is to it.  I'm not that naive. I'm sure it's like have a whole other job just taking care of your partners.

Thanks so much for what you do and the content that you provided.

These guys aren't making much at all off the youtube videos.... I saw something on this topic where videos that had been on youtube for years and had almost a million views hadn't even made the guys $1,000.  When you look at Tactical Bassin- I'm sure they get some gear thrown their way to use, and the notoriety helps a lot with the guiding business, and they make SOME money to supplement the hobby - but income from all their videos isn't what allowed them to pick up and move cross country just to fish..

I am a Youtuber by hobby. Currently at 679 subscribers. If I can make enough one day to cover some expenses I'll be happy. The people that do it full time make very little off of YouTube. The vast majority of those big time YouTubers make it from sponsorships. Sponsorships will vary based on how much traffic you can bring to the video. While a video with a million views might not make $1000 from ad revenue, a video with a million views will be worth a lot more to a direct sponsor. Imagine what you'd pay to get your product in front of one million people? While making money off of YouTube and making money off of sponsorships are somewhat related, I'd treat them as two separate categories. The sponsorships will come if you can prove to the sponsors that you'll get their product in front of people.

Great questions:  In todays world of electronic everything I can’t see why anyone would have to move other than for tax reasons.   Tactical Bassin for example was California based which is probably Top 3 in the highest tax rate/cost of living in the country.  I am formerly from So Cal so I feel qualified to speak to that.

I think Youtubers would want to move because they can deliver new fresh perspective content instead of the same geographical locations they have for years.  Also they are more mobile than others due to the fact that they can work from anywhere.  Youtuber Tylersreelfishing makes trips to the north country where he is able to offer different smallmouth content.   Even with my YouTube channel I have found that you have a tendency to want to offer your viewers something different.

I just don’t see it as a “demands from partnerships” perspective.  They shouldn’t have to be located in the nearby proximity for meetings when zoom meetings are so easy.

There can be a lot of misconceptions about what it takes to be recognized and become a part of a companies promotional efforts.  Companies are in business to be profitable of course, so if they can’t justify how the angler increases sales and a reasonable amount of exposure then baits & cash is probably not going to happen.

Certainly there are different things that need to happen by the angler in these partnerships but I wouldn’t count moving as one of them.  For example KVD, Skeet Reese and Mike Iaconelli have never left there home states to fulfill there contractual obligations.

Hope that answers your questions...GOOD FISHING!

Thank you,

I imagine Tactical makes most of it's money from sales through the links in the description below their videos. They probably get a decent percentage from Tackle Warehouse.
