I have an Abu Garcia UC4600C that is mint aside from the fact that instead of no handle play, the handle reels backwards!  Is this a simple fix with a new anti-reverse bearing?  If so, what part number do I need and how easy is it to slide that bearing out?  Please let me know any advice that you have.  Thank you and best wishes on the water!

You'll need access to an arbor press to remove the bearing.  You can use a socket slightly smaller in diameter than the bearing to press out the old one.  You'll need part# 22014.

Before going to trouble replcing that bearing, try cleaning and relube. Too much oil, or any grease can enable the bearing to turn backwards. Remove ALL the old lube. Relube using one drop of light oil on a q-tip. Just might solve your problem.

@Tom J DeGuilio

Mike's Reel Repair in BC sells the A/R bearings, and a press and anvil for swapping.

You can use a jeweler's hammer if you don't have access to the press.

Since your A/R is new, you may only need to flip it.

There's a clutch dog, but no anti-reverse dog

The sleeve goes on the main shaft stack, is keyed to the main shaft, and rides between the main shaft and A/R bearing.

In my case, these came out of the surf since 1995, so they were getting new everything.

This is probably your schematic, which is the same as mine - only narrower and has LW + idler gear

I have lots of round abu’s, I need to take a road trip to @bulldog1935’s house . None of mine work properly except the one from the 60s . I bought them used and then abused them for a long time. I can fish them but I have to remember all the quirks of each one, took the worm gear out of most and just even out the line with my index finger as I reel

@TnRiver46

No room, I'm working on my 1500C

Among many great parts for this one, Avail makes a BB pinion support.

ps - I take all those photos for bread crumbs - need to find my way home

Shoot Jerry Foran an email, his site is hookless.com.  He has tons of Abu parts, his site just shows a fraction of what he has so you're best off emailing him.
