Very rarely have I had a Palomar break, but I think there is occasionally a twist that I can't see when cinching down. I did switch to the double shindo knot this year and now prefer it. Double line wraps all throughout seems to make sense and so far 100% holds.  I use it for fluoro, co-poly... especially nice when tying large treble hook lures you don't get fouled up when you run the lure back through the loop like when tying a Palomar!

man i dont know about that, i always pull the tag end but if i dont wet it it will almost always get at least one little burn mark on it(especially 6 & 8 lb) I think the lube makes up for not double checking if line twist when you make the initial pass through the hook eye

That only happens if you are cinching it wrong, or tying it wrong, though the heavier the line, the more surface area for friction. There should be near zero friction on a properly tied Palomar. Pull both tag and main together at the same time. I don't even like the word "cinch" - lol - as I simply just snug the knot tight...without lubrication, though it rarely hurts. Chap Stick or similar is better than spit. If the loops do get a little uneven, do as Catt said and snug from the tag, not the main...but risk for heat generation is greater at that point.
