HydrillaKilla Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 i went out the other day for the first time this year and had problems with my big motor. it started fine but did not have enough power to get on plane. with all the rain here i had time to clean the carbs and replace old gaskets etc before i ever got on the water. i put regular sta-bil in the tank for the first time (not the marine) could this cause the problem??? i mixed it as the bottle said. thanks robbie Quote
Super User cart7t Posted May 19, 2009 Super User Posted May 19, 2009 If the motor was running fine before the carb rebuilds I'd say you did something wrong. Stabil, even if dumped into the tank way above recommended amounts will cause the motor to smoke but wouldn't cause your problem. I did a rebuild on my carbs one year and had the same type of problem. It turns out some of my carb linkage was not hooked up right and was causing a timing issue. Most of the linkage parts looked very similar and in some cases were interchangeable with one another. I didn't pay enough attention when disassembling to make sure I didn't mix them up. I never let that happen again. Quote
