Twistlock Shakyhead for Ned Rig?

When I fish ned rigs, I usually use the normal shroom jig heads but I dont like that there is an exposed hook and the weedless shroom head jig's weed guards aren't to effective in my oponion. Have any of yall used a light twistlock shakyhead as a weedless ned rig jig head?

Ur better off going with Flatlands, Lifted Jigs or Owners EWG Block Head.  I haven't used the EWG block head so im not sure how big there 1/0 is.  Lifted Jigs have a 1/0 VMC that fits the 2.75 better then the Flatlands weedless ned head.  Flatlands heads come in 1/0 or 2/0 Gami.  Gamakatsus' 1/0 is a little long for the 2.75 TRD but will work in a pinch.  I use the flatlands for the hula sticks.  Elaztech can be a pain to get on a screwlock, but it can be done.  I like the Gamakatsu tricky shakey head when im using elaztech.

I have the owner EWG and I’ll probably never go back to a regular ned head.

After searching to find "the one" I have a lifetime supply of ned heads. No way I could fish an open hook where I fish.

 

Here's what I came to after buying pretty much every style I could get my hands on:

 

I like the Lifted EWG heads, but they are a little longer than I would prefer so I went in search of a #1 hook. 

 

Owner finesse ball head has a smaller (#1) hook with an ewg bend. 

 

And there's another japanese brand that has a similar ball head with two mono weedguards. Maybe hyabusa or jackall.

 

They both work really well, and I didn't notice any difference on the 90 degree line tie vs the 45 on these but perhaps it would make a difference for others.

With all that said, the thing that has helped the most is
1) small hook like a #1

2) lighten up on the weight and

3) if it feels a little snaggy just pop the line a tiny bit (sort of like the bow/arrow style) - the light weight will pop right up.

I have recently purchased a few packs of the Owner EWG heads, haven't had a chance to put them to use, but I have been guilty of rigging a normal Ned head weedless, it looks perfectly ridiculous, but it does confer the desired characteristics and as long as you do it properly, it still hooks up at least as well as any other weedless presentation.

My recommendation would be to "old school."   In the decades before the Ned rig became a thing, there was the Brewer Slider rig which is a similar presentation but is much more snag free than the open hook Ned rig.   The 4" worms marketed by the Brewer Slider company are an easier to use alternative than elaz-tech worms are - IMO.

 

I own a Ned rig and occasionally fish it, but I find that for me it is much more effective on the sandy/creek rock/smooth rock sections of Ozark creeks/rivers  than it is in the reservoirs that I generally fish in.
