Frogging vs Flipping

I'll admit it, I'm a frog fishing addict. Still fairly new to flipping, but I'm wondering how do you guys decide to frog or flip? I mostly fish ponds or small lakes that are pretty choked out most of the year. And while I have good success on the frog, a couple trips with friends who are good at flipping have opened my eyes to see that sometimes I might be missing a lot of fish deep in cover that won't come up and hit a frog. Other times, the frog is more successful. I have a hard time slowing myself down, so is there any good method to decide when to slow down and flip everything as opposed to speeding up and covering water with a frog? Or do I just need to get used to flipping the majority of the time so I know I covered an area thoroughly?

I use it as a one / two punch, I fish the frog until I am getting blowups but not hook ups (make sure hooks are tipped out and up and trim your legs/skirt). Then I grab my flipping stick and shoot a punching jig or T-rig in the holes or areas near the blow ups. Its what has worked for me, although I have had less success flipping than frogging to be honest.

Spot on! It's a 1,2 punch for me... that's why all of us have tons of rods on the deck.  The goal is to find a bite.  So I'm gonna go with the hot hand once I figure it out.  It goes way beyond frogs vs flipping, once i narrow the fish down to certain areas, i look at what i do well, vs what is the best ways to cover the water and get to the fish.

To me, it's a matter of water clarity.  Frogging is a technique that works better in clearer water.  Flipping is for darker waters.  There are exceptions, but this is true the majority of the time. In turbid water, fish hold tight to cover and don't move far.  Years ago, when the Harris Chain water was a mess, flipping was the only way to go.   You could cast a top water lure all day in the main lake without a bite. Today, the water is clearer and frogging works much better.  Flipping all day is hard work.  It's also the best way I know of to target big fish.  Frogging is the most fun of any bass fishing technique I have ever done.

I frog fish in the early morning then I’ll go back and pitch / flip to small openings in the pads and weeds.

I have reached a point in my life that I would rather sit shaking a Ned rig than sit on a bar stool. But I’m fishing for the peace. I’ve had enough “excitement “ for three lifetimes.
