Hey all, I’m replacing all my rods real soon as I really only have two good ones. All the other are either real nicked up or broke. I’m on the search for a real good rod spinning mainly but as well as bait casting. I’ve been looking at St. Croix mojo bass or the dobyns fury.

Any suggestions? Would love to hear everyone’s 2 cents!

I’ve become a big fan of the iRod Genesis II series. I’ve got 4 casting and 1 spinning and plan to get some more over time. They’re my favorites I’ve used at it around that price point. The owner of the company is really solid and very helpful. Great customer service. If you’re interested in their rods you can send him an email on their website and he’ll help you with anything you need. That’s what I did and they’ve made a definite return customer out of me. They perform great and if you’re into aesthetics they look pretty dang slick imo.

I really like my Daiwa Tatula rods both spinning and casting.

I’ve heard really good things about Daiwa Tatula rods. How’s the sensitivity on them?

Denali attax series or dobyns fury are good choices

I took a look at the denali attax previously but I definitely like the dobyn fury better. Just hard to decide between 3 great rod choices of St. Croix Mojo Bass, Daiwa Tatula and the Dobyn Fury

Sensitivity is great probably about 70% better than the Dobyns fury in my opinion Dobyns fury would be last on my list I have one.

I'm also a big fan of these rods.

If you're not too worried about having nicer guides, the Fiber series use the same blanks as the Genesis II'S, and are $100. The Crusher's are a little more sensitive for dragging a jig, and other bottom contact baits, and just a couple bucks more.

I'd pick one of these up before one of my Dobyn's Fury any day.

But if you decide on a Dobyn's, I'd spend the extra couple bucks over your budget and bump up to a Sierra.

That’s a strong case because I heard the fury is a really good rod! I’m definitely going to take a look at these rods. How about the dobyns Sierra or genesis II?

I have a Sierra and a Fury and you will notice a big difference in sensitivity between them. I’ve heard good things about the Shimano SLXs too. And TW has some Curados for $99.

Bass Pro Shops® Johnny Morris CarbonLite™ 2.0 Casting Rod ...

good fishing ...

Used my buddies once. It was very nice, been thinking about looking more into those. Don’t know too much about them though

I have a Fury and Tatula and I wouldn't say there is a big difference in sensitivity if any. The Tatula has nicer guides and a full cork handle, but the Fury has a lifetime warranty compared to Tatula's 5 year warranty. The cork handle on my Tatula also seems a little loose also, the top moves slightly when I'm fighting a fish. Other than that, they both weigh the same, that why I would maybe look into the iROD Genesis II, they are lighter and have a lifetime warranty, although not as nice looking as the other two. Come Black Friday you will be able to get a new Zodias for $160 from TW.

That's kind of a hard decision, but I'd still probably choose an iRod. I seriously have a hard time putting them down.

The fury's are a good rod... for the price. Once you step up into the $150, they don't really compete.

Another rod that hasn't been mentioned is the Phenix Feather, talk about a light rod, they don't get much lighter. Just make sure you go up one power than what you really want. I've heard good things about the Phenix M1 also.

There's a lot of choices.

How many rods are you getting?

Do you want them all to be by the same manufacturer?

What techniques are you looking to throw?

Do you like softer or stouter tips?

Do you fish for mostly Smallmouth or Largemouth or Both?

BTW: I can't vote in your poll because I've only used 3 of the rods listed, but out of the Tatula, Fury, and Sierra, I would choose the Sierra, unless you hate soft tips, then I would choose the Tatula. And, there is usually a 20% of Dobyns sale going on, where you can get Sierra for under $150. Dobyns also gives 30% off to Military Veterans, in case you know someone who can call and order one for you if you aren't a Veteran. Dobyns also has a Facebook group where people sell a lot of rods for decent prices and you can also find refurbished rods on their website at a discount.

I fish for both small and large. And I was thinking around 4, don’t really want to go anything beyond a 7’4. I was going for to get all the same manufacture but I see now that there are so many good rod options around my price range. The tips don’t matter too much to me as long as they are durable Becuase I put my rods through pretty rough stuff.

Sounds like warranty would be pretty important then, I would stay away from Shimano then. Dobyns & iRod have Lifetime warranties and I believe St.Croix have 15 year, not sure about Phenix, Tatula only has 5, and I don't think anyone will recommended a Carrot Stix.

Two models I would recommend would be the Sierra 703sf and the iRod Genesis II Fred's Magic Stick, that would handle your Finesse and Power. A Fury 705cb would take care of crankbaits or I'm sure iRod has a Cranking rod, and maybe a Phenix Feather Heavy/Fast for a All Around type rod.

I’ve been looking at Fred’s Magic Stick for a couple weeks now so I think I’m going to pull the trigger and buy that one for my first one. I love that iRod and Dobyns have lifetime warranties. The Sierra is definitely in my mind and I’ll be eyeing those. It’s so hard between the four company’s Becuase they are all great rods it’s hard to go wrong with any of them ??

How does one go about measuring sensitivity?
