Sphynx Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 There are times I am glad I haven't got a fish finder, because I never know how buggered my chances of catching fish are, I just go, and start throwing and adjust based on what fish and conditions and opportunities tell me, I get skunked a few times a month, but overwhelmingly I end up with a few fish anyway Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 6, 2020 Global Moderator Posted October 6, 2020 September always sucks for me, this year not excluded. October is better, and so far that has held true. 1 Quote

pdxfisher Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 We are fortunate out here in the Pacific NorthWest. Bass fishing is usually good and stable through late October to November depending upon when the winter rains start. The weather and water conditions out here are much more stable than they were when I lived back on the East coast in PA and NC. I don't miss the chaotic conditions of the East coast playing havoc on my success. On the other hand we don't get those crazy bites just as a massive front rolls through either. Just remember the good times to help get you through the bad. I hope those who need rain get it and those with too much dry out! Quote

I don't have anyone to fish with at night. After having knee replacement surgery on both knees last year and I will be 69 in less than month I don't think being out alone at night is a good option for me. Quote

I was fishing from a 14 foot john yesterday with a portable depth finder . Fishing was slow so I ventured out on a point . The point drops down to a flat about 25 foot deep and the sonar was full of signals relating to the bottom next to the point on the flat . I caught almost 50 bass out of that school , hopping a lipless bait through them . 4 Quote
Gerald Walter Bergevin Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 4 hours today. Not a bite. At least not that I felt. A couple times my bobber twitched during the first half hour. Then I went all around the lake, half dozen spots, and nothing. Tried bobber and Gulp minnows for blue gill. Also a square bill for bass—too many weeds. Tried senko wacky-rigged. Tried small crank bait. Nothing.Massachusets Fish and Game website says they stocked this lake with trout. Saw guy nearby catch something— maybe trout. He was fishing further out than me. Did I start too late? (8:15 am.) Wrong baits? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 7, 2020 Super User Posted October 7, 2020 Can't beat a nightcrawler under a bobber for bluegill. Might catch a trout, too! Actually, just about everything that swims will eat a worm. 1 Quote

I’m sticking to my abilities. Thanks, and best of luck out there. 9 hours ago, roadwarrior said: Can't beat a nightcrawler under a bobber This is true, but it’s waiting and not fishing in my book. ? I might get skunked too if I were fishing the same water as you .My point was Fish were everywhere on my depth finder , the only ones I tried to catch were the ones relating to good structure , in this case a point . I just lucked out but I knew this was a good spot for bass .I caught them there in June too . The photo you show would not excite me . There is a ball of baitfish but it looks like a bunch of suspended fish of what species who knows . I would take note that they are mostly shallow between five and ten foot try to get something going at those depths . Quote
