I'm new to fishing and after about five trips i finally bagged my first bass! I was using a texas rig on different plastic worms for about an hour with no luck when i noticed there was a lot of thick grass on the bottom of the lake and all i was doing was dragging the worms through it and you couldnt really see the worms very well. I figured i'd try something that i could just retrieve back over the grass and see if that made a difference. I pulled out a chatterbait i had and since i already had a 6 inch gulp nightcrawler on my texas rig i just went ahead and threw that on as the trailer. Cast it out a couple times and just straight retrieved it back and BOOM! bass. It was small but it was a bass! Thanks to all of you guys who have been so great for advice on everything i've come across so far.

Congratulations on your first bass. The bait monkey will now be coming to see you and empty your bank account.

Bravo . You figured out what you wanted a lure to do and then made it happen . Thats one of the secrets to successful bass fishing . Keep connecting the dots , making decisions and enjoying the success .

Congrats! I don’t remember my first bass, but I do remember the first sizable one. It’s been 47 years and I can still recall it like yesterday.

Still have the same rod and reel!

I always wondered what the big deal was about bass until I caught my first, and it was on a topwater as well. I was hooked instantly!

Congrats!
