Fishing has dramatically gone down hill the past week. We got heavy rain last sunday which raised some of the water levels but since has gone back to normal and the temps are finally in the upper 60s, I fish ponds here in the Northeast United States specifically New Jersey and it's been the same results at all 3 ponds I fish. They won't hit anything, jigs on the bottom are no good, Moving baits no good and the finesse bite has also been brutal. Should I keep trying or just give up for now? What is causing the fish not to bite?

Instability - but the great thing  about most ponds is their shallower water. Things can stabilize really quickly, so a day or two can make a big difference, and different ponds react differently to weather. Don’t give up...keep checking them out.

It's been tough here for the past month...until today.  I went out yesterday after work at 5PM and really just rode and looked st the graph... this morning the bass were on fire.. most 2 and 3 pounders but i got a 6.8 and two 4s.  I had to find big pods of bait and work behind them in a sense at the first drop behind them... I seen huge pods of bass on that first drop behind them on the bottom...found then in the first 1/4 mile of a big creek off of the main lake on the north side...which is weird for this time of year.  Follow the bait.  They will lead you to them.  I caught 43 green bass today and handful of striper..simply by finding shad and stay on that

When weather or temp instability effects ponds like that do the fish get spooked? Do they suspend? Or just have lockjaw?

My opinion/observation is they just seem to stop feeding and kind of shut down. The few more active fish will still be up shallow, often on windy banks, but the rest I think just pull out and hunker down. But since most ponds are shallow, and water temps stay somewhat consistent, it seems like they “recover” rather quickly as long as they’re not getting bombarded with front after front and continually deteriorating conditions.

Not for me . A cold front blew through , high winds , nobody fishing . I got out yesterday and it was cold 38 degrees in the morning . Both my hands were cramping up , I was so chilled . I only saw one other boat fishing on the 250 acre reservoir . Bass were shallow and hitting spinnerbaits and even  picked off a few with buzzbaits . I was working spinnerbaits right below the surface , Jimmy Houston style and witnessed every hit . My line broke on the biggest . I just got done checking my line but didnt do a good enough job I guess . The fish broke me off in a brush pile . Twice afterwards I saw it jump trying to expel the lure . It was big .

Temps were in the mid 30’s this morning in Northern NY.

In the cold and fog I managed to hook a dink Largemouth Bass and a 4 and a half pound Channel Catfish. I won’t lie fishing has been tough with the instability and the full moon.

Last few days have been just about rotten, rising river, bluebird skies, windy as all get out, couldn't buy a consistent bite if I had the cash to burn, gotten 2 fish in the last few days, one on a crankbait right at the bank as I was getting ready to recast, and one on a Ned Rig a few miles on down, on a rocky bank, he followed it the first time, and I nailed his butt two casts later, it has been tough sledding though for sure.

Last week water was in the mid to high 60s here...had a cold snap at the end of the week and water dropped and hovered in the mid 50s. I caught 21 bass Friday...it was only 28 in the morning. Went out this evening for a few hours...it was tough but I caught a dink and one pushing 4.5 also missed another good bite.

Pretty much wrecked them Saturday, 37 largemouth, 7 smallmouth, 17 white bass, 1 crappie, and 1 channel cat. Most everything on a spinnerbait. I was disappointed I didn't get a wiper or big smallmouth though. Guided on Sunday and put 2 really nice smallmouth in the boat along with a bunch of smaller ones, a few largemouth, several tank white bass, a couple drum, and a sauger. Of course on a day with bright skies, post cold front, a tournament the day of and the day prior, and I got the "wish we could have caught more/bigger fish", line afterwords ?‍♂️ Don't we all pretty much every day?
