rtwvumtneer6 Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Good evening! Have a family friend building in the Jupiter area, and an open invite to visit. I'm curious: 1.) Would February offer fish in all phases of the spawn? 2.) Would you suggest a guide for a first timer on the Big O?... If so, any particular service? Much thanks! Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 1, 2020 Global Moderator Posted October 1, 2020 February is a perfect time to be on The Lake. You’ll find bass in all stages. If this is the first time I would absolutely advise a guide. Do a search on here as I posted on another thread a while back about a 1/2 dozen full time guides, that I have either fished with in tournaments or know personally. If you’re adventurous, on another thread I listed a few areas that you can try on your own. I’d advise you not to venture too far into the lake and if you see a storm building leave! The Big O no place to go joy riding. Mike 2 Quote

That sounds like Lake Erie. She gets nasty in a hurry. Everyone I've known to go out on their own says there's lots of dead water, but it all looks good. I'll try and dig up your guide thread and get the conversation started. Appreciate it. Rob Quote
Hudson McLean Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 I just went there for the first time in July and it was tough, but figuring out the lake for myself is half the fun. It probably would be a good idea to get a guide the first time, but if your stubborn like me, you can save some money and still catch some fish. 1 Quote
Super User geo g Posted November 4, 2020 Super User Posted November 4, 2020 Lake O is big and the bass move depending on the conditions. Don’t wander too far off the beaten path, it is easy to get turn around and lose your way if you don’t know the lake. It happened to me fishing the monkey box on the west side. A strong wind can build big waves quickly, and even blow water out of one area and into another. So if the level is below 13 feet be extra careful and move around slower. Fun place but can be dangerous at times. Storm building get off the water quickly. Feb can also be quite cold at times. So bring warm clothing and gloves. 1 Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted December 23, 2020 Author Posted December 23, 2020 This is starting to get real. Found really affordable flights Feb 24-March 1. All of my special order Black Friday tackle has arrived. Rod Bazuka will be here just after Christmas. Fingers and toes crossed until then ? Quote
Crazyju Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 I go down do south Fla every year with a group of guys. This will be our 3 rd time on the Big O. We go in Feb. It usually takes us a few days to figure things out, but after that it gets real good. The water is way up this year, so it will be much easier to run than the last few. Galen Fugh is a great guide. 1 Quote
