*I would want to put foil strips on that stand up leggy jig and see if I could get better TV reception ! ... My MVL award goes to a shaky head with a Zman Green Pumpkin Finesse Worm on the business end .

In sand and gravel they work great, but in grass and wood I haven't done to well with them.  The other I have with them has to do with confidence and really isn't backed up by any proven facts.  I feel like those wires can stop the jighead from getting to deep in a fish mouth and the hookset will just blow the mouth of the fish open.  Again that scenario is just theoretical, the possibility of it in my mind causes doubt which isn't good for confidence.  I felt the same way about Picassos titanium wire weed guards.  After just a few weeks of using them, I think there pretty good.

Stick worm! YUM, BPS, whatever, they have caught most of my fish this season. Fist time I'd really tried them too, I just skunked for so long I gave them a shot. I believe!

Best bait of the year, as I fished a lot more smallmouth, was an x-zone slammer and finesse slammer. A great little softbait with lots of action and great colours. Other than that, I only largemouth fished a few ponds and it was all about the Senko.

This is probably true for 90% of us but only a few brave souls will admit it.

I haven’t used a Senko in years.  Not saying that is the right choice but I just don’t fish them anymore.

For number of fish it is either a Ned rig or a 4” swimbait.  For quality, I am going to keep that private.  No one has mentioned it on two different forum in threads like this so I hope it stays that way.

Lol- I can understand not wanting to give up a secret spot.... but I can't see what harm disclosing this info could lead to.

Edit- especially here.  Sounds like everyone wants to help other catch more and bigger fish..

It's the best bait I have ever used for quality fish.  It along with a Senko back in 2000 or so and a Ned rig a couple years ago have been the best baits I have ever started using.

I am not sure what the bait of the year is. I caught my biggest bass of the year on a spinnerbait and it definitely made a good run starting in late August. I believe I caught the most fish on either a Berkley Powerworm but it also may have been on an arky head jig.

If I had to go catch a bass and my life depended on it, the Berkley Power Worm might be my choice. Leaning toward the 4” version over the 7” worm. It’s a shame Berkley doesn’t carry a few baits that were part of their line up 20 years ago. I think they should bring some of their old baits back and MaxScent them.

I don’t fish them like I use to. But they will get you a bass when other soft plastics are getting ignored. Good choice.

Missile Baits Ike’s Micro Jig, 1/8 oz, dill pickle color, with Netbait Tiny Paca Chunk in green pumpkin. Senkos are always good, but the big bass were caught with jigs.

The 6" Bull Shad accounted for my biggest fish so far this year. No DD's yet but lots of 8's and a couple of 9's - thank you Lake Fork. I wish I had this bait back in the early 90's when a 15 wouldn't crack the top 50 on Fork.

But for numbers by far, has been 3/4 of a Maxscent General GP/Red on a Nichols JT Magnum Ned head.

What sized Ned head where you using of the Nichols? 3/16? 5/16?

Zman ned rig jigheads with small TRDs, wacky rigged senkos, and Zman chatterbaits.  I took a very long haitus from fishing to work on my career (tech transactions, intellectual property, and patents) so these were all new to me, even though they've been around for a while.

Novel way to breath life into a thread.

This year, 2021, and Arkie style jig and RageCraw trailer win MVL, AGAIN.  Big fish, numbers, it doesn't matter that combo gets it done day in and day out for me.  Seasonally, a couple of lures would give it some stiff competition, but collectively it wins, hands down.

Hey I loved this thread last year! Ok... my pick for 2021 is the Nichols Pulsator. Most versatile lure.... @roadwarrior called it, it's the rage tail menace. I used it on flipping/punching jigs and buzzbaits this year.

Honorable mentions: scum frog trophy series, nichols reflex buzzbait, gambler burner worm, and the senko.

Hottest lure for me right now: Booyah covert double indiana

Last year I put swim jig #1 with honorable mentions of jig, spinner bait and senko. I'm a basics type of guy so almost every year I could put spinnerbait, jig, buzzbait or plastic worm up there. That said this year was strange for me..mainly I believe because of the extremely low water. My runner up this year and honestly probably in the lead for fish caught is the ned rigged TRD. My MVP for 2021... The popper. Really surprised the crap out of me but I caught alot of very nice fish on poppers this year.
