I came home expecting to find my two new 6gill Lykan rods ready to fish this weekend. Needless to say, upon discovering the package, I was skeptical.

What do you think? Should I even open it??

Take pictures - this one works for 'un-opened' - and document as you unpack. If they're good, no problems - if they're broken, you got picture evidence for requesting 'Replacement due to shipper error'.

Does this qualify as broken? ?

 No smart assedness intended.

The other rod is equally screwed. Both blanks are smashed to pieces.

that type of damage is INTENTIONAL by the carrier.  Seriously, that type of destruction is NOT accidental.  FedEx has an employee that handled this package that intentionally destroyed it and they can ID exactly who that is, as they know every person who touched that package in the distribution process.

Step one - contact Fed-Ex customer service and e-mail the pics to them. Start the ball rolling in their court.

I sent an email to ***. Hopefully they'll make it right. I've read that they're customer service is next to none. We'll see.

Ultimately that's what matters to me.

I can't see purchasing products unseen unless their customer service warrants it.

The ball's in their court.

I'll keep y'all posted.

I know the photo only shows one end of the tube but both ends are equally smashed. Indicating the tube was driven from end to end or close to it.

Looking at the tube, the tire tread over the tube (which is obvious) indicates the tube was driving over either quartering towards or away almost the full length of the tube.

Pretty crummy employee, who ever did such a thing.

Make sure to get detailed pics of those tire-tread marks. More evidence of mis-handling.

I HATE seeing that kind of stuff. But good luck man, especially during the current situation with covid and such. I know here in the GTA trying to talk to any of the big carriers is a waste of time.

I had the same rod delivered to me 3 times in a row with the heavy cardboard tube nearly broken clean in half. Not sure exactly what they were doing to it, but it takes some force to do that to one of those tubes. Twice I got a rod in 2 pieces, the 3rd time it was 3 or 4 pieces it was smashed so badly. I almost just canceled my order but it finally got there in one piece.

I have had rods arrive from shipping carriers folded in half, with a boot tread imprint right in the middle of where the rod was bent.  Some carriers are better than others at knowing/tracking who handles rod tubes, but suffice it to say that because these rod shipping tubes are irregular sizes, they don't fit "the normal" workflows for these carriers and it ticks employees off and they are allowed to do stupid ignorant things to valuable packages with little to no discipline or recourse (union protection, tough employment markets) and the end result is the goods that we are looking to receive are destroyed and in some cases unreplaceable.   Don't even get me started on how crappy a person you have to be to destroy someone else's property intentionally.

I don't know how it is these days, but I had a few college buddies in the 1980s that worked part-time for a transport company. They used to joke about the things that got damaged when they were transferring them in/out of trucks. Sometimes they're in a hurry, sometimes they're just not paying attention, and sometimes it's third shift and they're goofing off with little/no supervision. I got the impression there was little accountability as long as the overall damage tally was in an acceptable range. However, these days they probably know who handles each package.

Damaged packages happen. What is unacceptable is the practice of delivering a obviously damaged package. If no one else, the driver should refuse to release a crushed package on your doorstep when you aren't around to see it.

FedEx's reputation is down the tubes when it comes to their damage control during these high volume times.  You should check out the damage they've done to shipments from @sugarpercussion on IG.  They are well into five figures at this point.

Its disgusting when you really think about it. There is no way they don't know what they are doing. I had a rod ship to me from 13 fishing a few months back from their oshawa location, which is 20 minutes from my house. The rod came in 2 pieces and when the guy dropped the package off at the door he had to make 2 trips because when he dropped the first half of with the shipping info on the tube my old man asked him where the second half was and he had to go get it. 13 fishing put warning labels all over the tube to make sure it came in one piece and at some point they managed to destroy it within 3-4 days.

My suspicion is the lack of quality service is a reflection of how FedEx is treating their employees.

I have all but given up on ordering rods after my last two arrived in sorry shape. I am not about to go for strike three.

I will stick with what I can buy in a tackle shop.

There’s always room for improvement, but I’ve worked inside processing facilities for all three(ups/FedEx/usps/) and they all use similar material handling process and equipment. Packages get handled a lot during the process. The long tubes can fall victim to turns in the conveyor track. Crushing damage like the pic likely happened during loading of a tractor trailer transport. If you saw the process in action you’d be surprised anything ever gets anywhere let alone in one piece. The shear volume is overwhelming. I’m not suggesting accepting damaged goods just adding some perspective.

So far they're batting 500.

I've had bad experiences with all three but Fedex takes the cake for bad customer service is my experiences. Most breaks goes to USPS but I insure those packages in full every time. USPS will also randomly just lose a packaged for 3 weeks and oh there is is.....no tracking to where it went. Ship PVC when you can.

Contact fedex on facebook, they will respond. This was the only way i got a hold of them. I had a package that was 11 days late and they finally worked it out.

I believe in personal accountability.  I can't buy into the "how Fed Ex is treating their employees"  If that excuse  is good then be careful of where you eat... if employees are mad at management, who knows what can happen to your food...

Their beef with management shouldn't translate into intentionally destroying someone other working stiffs package or being careless in its handling.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, here is a good one!!!!   Ready for this, since I first posted here, I have been notified by two different buyers that rods that I sent to them arrived  (what for it)              DAMAGED!!!!!!!!    ALMOST LIKE BIG BROTHER WAS WATCHING OR LISTENING.

That is TWO, and for those of you who know me, I tend to move a lot of fishing equipment as I am a true tackle junkie, which is to say that I had a pretty good run of non damaged shipments when I switched to fully insuring every package (50% of uninsured packages were damaged over a two year period), but this week, this is the first damaged rods I have hand since converting to shipping everything fully insured.  Now it is time to see how good the insurance is, what loopholes they have and how hard it will be to get reimbursed (protected my buyers and fully refunded their payments and requested return service so I have the rods in my possession).

Honestly, cannot make this stuff up.  Two rods this week alone broken during shipping.  There is definitely a problem in whoville.....

It’s obviously more profitable to pay insurance claims than increase quality control. Whether right or wrong, such is business.
