kayaking_kev Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 I was trying out a new rooster tail in a small river and caught this thing, I have no idea what it is, does anyone know? Quote
Finessegenics Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 It doesn't look like a creek chub or fallfish to me, which are the usual suspects. Common shiner maybe? This is a good resource to use for identifying species so if you've got time to kill you should check it out. https://www.roughfish.com/ 1 Quote
Fallser Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 I'll put a vote in for a small fallfish. The scales, tail and dorsal fin match a fallfish. Quote

The Bassman Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 I've caught countless shiners when I used to wade creeks. They're pretty aggressive. Small spinners guaranteed a shiner bite. Quote

The fish you are holding in your hands is a striped shiner. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted October 7, 2020 Super User Posted October 7, 2020 I call them "creek chubs." The local rivers around here have tons of 'em. Quote

Russ E Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 that is a shiner. as @TnRiver46 said a creek chub is a total different fish. this is a creek chub. they are common in most midwest streams. they make great catfish bait. 1 Quote
