Fish Identification

I was trying out a new rooster tail in a small river and caught this thing, I have no idea what it is, does anyone know?

It doesn't look like a creek chub or fallfish to me, which are the usual suspects. Common shiner maybe? This is a good resource to use for identifying species so if you've got time to kill you should check it out. https://www.roughfish.com/

I'll put a vote in for a small fallfish.   The scales, tail and dorsal fin match a fallfish.

I've caught countless shiners when I used to wade creeks. They're pretty aggressive. Small spinners guaranteed a shiner bite.

The fish you are holding in your hands is a striped shiner.

I call them "creek chubs."  The local rivers around here have tons of 'em.

Creek chub is a different species of fish , but you may call them as you please haha

that is a shiner. 

as @TnRiver46 said a creek chub is a total different fish.

 

this is a creek chub. they are common in most midwest streams. they make great catfish bait.
