Bulco2992 Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 Hey guys I'm new to this page. I've read a lot of conversations on topics I've Googled over the past couple years. I'm mainly a finesse fisherman and mostly fish for smallies. I recently purchased a 15 daiwa exist and am looking for opinions on what I should pair it with? Like a lot of us fishing is my love and collecting and testing high end gear is my passion. I have a pretty decent selection of high end rods right now. But I'm looking to add the ultimate rod for sensitivity. To start I have a 7' medium steez ags, megabass destroyer flyssa, dobyns champion extreme hp, ALX enox charmer, and a Kistler klx ned rig special. Those are the main spinning rods I use. I have a lot more high end gear in casting rods(nrx,p5,destroyers,legend xtreme, steez). But I've started really enjoying finesse fishing. I've been looking and researching and I always like trying new stuff. I am thinking about another steez 7' ml x fast. But I'm looking for other options and am open to opinions. I was looking at the new 13 carbon fuse. But reviews are really hard to find on them. I don't have much of a price range. But would like to keep it under $600. I appreciate anyone who can give me there opinions. Thank you Quote
Bulco2992 Posted September 25, 2020 Author Posted September 25, 2020 I was thinking custom. I'm not sure where to even begin with custom rods though? If you or any could point me in the right direction that would be great!! Quote
shimanoangler Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 If you go Steez AGS ML, I may have the stick for you. ? Great stick!!! Quote
Bulco2992 Posted September 25, 2020 Author Posted September 25, 2020 If not I'd still be interested Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 I have a suggestion if you're looking for a rod that's on the lighter side of ML. But I don't know if it's against the rules to put a Daiwa reel on a G. Loomis rod? ? WPJR 821S GLX is a Loomis walleye jig pitching rod. The 1-power is labeled "mag-light" and the 1/16-5/16 rating seems about right. The action is XF and the rod is not "whippy" at all. Light as a feather, super sensitive, and plenty powerful. I'm guessing because it's a walleye rod it's never talked about here but it is by far my favorite spinning rod. 1 Quote
Bulco2992 Posted September 25, 2020 Author Posted September 25, 2020 That's another one I'll have to look in to. What length is it? Quote
Sphynx Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 I know a lot of folks rave about the JDM stuff, now how much of this praise is due to these rods actually being superior and how much is due to the difficulty in procurement is a debate that isn't likely to be settled in my lifetime, but if you are looking for high end gear you may as well look into those rods as well. Bulco2992 Posted September 25, 2020 Author Posted September 25, 2020 I have spent a good bit of time looking at jdm rods. I often wonder if they're really that much better then all the rods we have access to here? I own quite a few megabass rods and they are amazing rods. But that's really the only Japanese rods I've ever handled Quote

Super User NHBull Posted September 25, 2020 Super User Posted September 25, 2020 Get a conquest and call it a day. This fall you’ll be able to get one for 425.00 +/- Quote
Bulco2992 Posted September 25, 2020 Author Posted September 25, 2020 Really?! That cheap? Point me in the right direction please Quote
Westcoast Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 If wanting a light sensitive rod, I would go for an nrx. Lots of models in what your looking for, the 901,902,852,etc... Quote

My only GLoomis is an older (much older) fly rod. As I understand it, the first two numbers are the rod length in inches and the third number is its power rating. So an 844C is 84 inches long and 4 power. If the model ends in "S" then it is a spinning rod. If it ends in "C" then it is a casting rod. Soooooo, if ordering late at night, pay attention. I now have a 6'10" ML casting rod when I thought I was ordering a 6'10' ML spinning rod. (From a different company.) Good thing I am much more into casting than spinning. I would love to have a GLX MBR. From what I read, the MBR is the most versatile taper. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 26, 2020 Super User Posted September 26, 2020 G.Loomis GLX PR844S https://www.gloomis.com/content/gloomis/northamerica/usconv/en/homepage/PDP.P-POPPING_ROD_SERIES.html Unfortunately, a Stella 2500HGFJ is required for the proper match. Mine is spooled with #6 Tatsu. Quote

I have an nrx and its great. But my first nrx broke the second time I had it out and that kind of turned me off Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 So what did you go with? I have been thinking about the 761 Steez. I definitely want a 7+". I have a Champion Extreme 741 and 742 that I use for Ned rigs and dropshop. The extra length is crucial for fighting fish and I am primarily smallmouth fishing in deep water. Quote

You own ALX rod and Alex is a custom rod builder before he started his ALX business and built all my rods, offers life time warranty, 90 free trail period and shipping. Another choice to look into is site sponsor DVT. Tell the rod builder what your goals are and budget. Tom Quote

I ended up getting an xtasy. It actually just showed up yesterday and it feels really nice. I haven't had a chance to do much more then look at it. So I can't tell ya anything about performance yet. I really like the 7'2" length. To be completely honest I wasn't blown away when I took it out of the tube. It doesn't feel a whole lot different then my champion extreme 742. But I really haven't had much time to handle it yet. After work today I plan on spending more time checking it out. I almost feel like I should went steez Quote
