Guys got to thinking about this yesterday. Sorry if it’s been brought up many of times in the past.

I’m not much of a coffee drinker. And I get skeeved out with communal coffee pots Especially in the work place. So yesterday I cleaned the maker up and brewed a pot up.

That brings me to the point that I’m thinking about taking some worms, creatures and craws and putting them on small zip lock bags and lightly covering them with some Maxwell House.  Maybe some in dry grinds and some with filter grins. Give it a week or so in the bag. Give that scent at try. Only going to do a few, not possibly going to ruin a whole bag.

Anyone try doing crazy stuff like that. I never looked into any studies or experimentation on this. Bass may be offended by that scent. Who knows. Thought I saw KVD had his name associated with some coffee bait stuff years ago. Maybe it was a flop? Might be a bad idea and the soft plastics will not be able to absorb anything.

Rage baits still have a label boasting of a coffee scent, not sure how well the soft plastic will accept the scent, but I'll be sure to follow this thread to see what your results are.

I’ve put soft plastics in empty Folgers plastic containers for years, it works! But when you put a hook in there it ruins everything

Should have thought about this earlier in the season.

Gonna pull a few Zoom Baits and try it. Other than the salt Zoom stuff is pretty neutral. Not pre-scented.

I'm a big believer in coffee/ caffeine scented baits, and here's why.

First let me say I'm a big coffee drinker, always have been. My wife, on the other hand can't stand the stuff. OK, good, more for me, but it's been kind of a long running joke for us, coffee,vs non coffee.

So, some years ago, when Strike King came out with coffee tubes I bought some, as a gag.

well, one day we were out fishing and we were marking fish down by the bottom, but couldn't get bit. As a lark I tied on a coffee tube and let it drop to the bottom. Bam, had a fish. Did it again, had another one. Told my wife " must be the coffee tubes!" She gave me a dirty look and tied on another brand of tube, same size, shape and color, just not coffee scented. I kept getting fish, she didn't. Finally, after I was ahead seven to her zip, she gave in and tied on a coffee tube. From then on she caught fish.

A least on that one day, coffee scent way out performed everything else. We were fishing side by side, same line, hooks everything. Ever since then, given a choice, I'll tie on a coffee/ caffeine scented bait over anything else.

So much better uses of my time than trying to make my baits smell like Maxwell House, but as they say, it’s only weird if it doesn’t work ? Good luck with the experiment. You’re in good company

Have fun! I tried it a number of years back. Meh. Was super messy

if the wind kicked up while I was busy getting a stick worm out of

the bag and the yak rocked w/o me paying attention...not that it

happened often. I just decided to stop using coffee grounds.

But then again, we used to keep nightcrawlers in used coffee grounds

and life was good for catchin' feesh. ;)

I have 3 colors of Zoom U Tails not soaking but covered in dry grinds right now in zip lock bags just setting. I was gonna let it go for about a week but I won’t be able to wait that long. I’ll have to try them Sunday. Might stain them but who cares they are dark for the most part anyway.

I’ll post positive or negative results. I feel I should have done this earlier in the year. And I certainly can’t make a good judgement with one outing.

I use various SK lures in the Rage series and ive had good success with them. I caught my PB on a junebug Ocho with the coffee scent. I like handling them better than anything Berkley!

I drink my coffee black, and use the same coffee cup over and over for a week or so, just rinsing it out between batches. After a week, it has built up on the porcelain cup to the point that you have to really scrub with a rag to get it off, so I think yeah, it will adhere to the plastic eventually.

I really doubt it will attract fish, but it might make them hold on a microsecond longer. It also might make them spit it out though. You'll never really know.

Reminds me of Dad who always had a cooler of live worms in the cellar .   He said the worms ate coffee grounds and would occasionally mix some in  . Dont know if thats true or not but the worms thrived .

I just drink a lot of coffee.  Pee over the side and dropshot.  The caffeinated lake water attracts the an they almost jump in the boat.  It's a win-win..:)

You're suppose to rinse your coffee cup?

I go through a pot a day, no sugar but a splash of creamer (International Delight...not those fakes)

This thing brews a pot in less than 3 minutes.

I'm not in THAT much of a hurry...I turn my pot on as I head out the back door for my first cig of the day...coffee is usually done by the time I come back in.

I don't trust the water in my town - I get gallon jugs of purified water for $0.39/gallon.

We are lucky, we have very safe water that actually tastes great straight from the tap.

Not really. Sometimes I just pour new black over the black ring at

the bottom of the mug. Some days I have rinsed...most days, not.

"Rinse and repeat" was more of a do the same every day comment. ;)

I think you’d be better off sprinkling some coffee grinds in with your Megastrike. ?

Fished my coffee ladened Zoom U Tails on Saturday. They were a Zero as far as productivity. I did have hits on the but I’m gonna chalk them up to bluegill or possibly perch. I put an effort into fishing them but did not want to beat them to death because I wanted to catch fish also. Perfect fishing day with a intermittent light and moderate rain, no wind, not cold and surface temps in higher 60,s.

Switched to fishing some creatures. Managed to land a couple of small bass on Twin Tail grubs. Day was not a loss. Not much, really any fishing pressure to deal with.

I’ll post again. Will give them another shot again this weekend. The Zoom U Tail is generally a productive worm. Not pre scented and my reasoning behind that worm.

Depending on where you are, especially in the Northeast and Northwest, I find that green bass prefer a sustainably-sourced cold brew from Costa Rica with just a touch of citrusy sweetness and a carmel note. The brown bass prefer a chocolatey Ethiopian blend with a darker roast and finer grind. The spots will drink anything black with caffeine.

Thought a Jamaican blend would have been perfect. Bigger bass must have been sleeping in Saturday.
