Raul_He Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Hello everyone, this is my first official post on here after years of coming back to the site for advice/tips. I recently couldn't pass up on an amazing deal my local tackle-shop hooked me up with, and in turn I now own a beautiful new Shimano Bantam. I know this reel deserves a baller pairing but, with so many great options out there (on top of the fact that I primarily use a spinning set up) I'm a bit lost. My first choice would be a rod in the new Megabass Destroyer P5 lineup/something JDM... With that in mind, here are the exact specifications of the reel: Bantam MGL 151 XG; 8.1:1. Which rod in the P5 lineup do you think suit it best? What applications are best recommended for the reel? What other JDM/Non-JDM options around that $300-$500 price range should I consider? Appreciate all the tips/recommendations more than you all know! Feel free to ask me for more information. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted September 21, 2020 Super User Posted September 21, 2020 as an official member now. Personally can't help you. Rods are way out of my price range. Another thought is to go custom....provided you know what you want to do with the rod. I also got a Bantam earlier this year, but haven't been out with it yet. Got out for a short time yesterday for the first time since early April. BUT I had to try my new-2-me Kistler Helium 3 M-XF and Steez EX with SV105 spool. Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 21, 2020 Super User Posted September 21, 2020 My advise is learn to cast your new reel using a rod that is easy to cast with. The longer the rod and higher power with Xfast action is the hardest rod to learn to cast because the release point is critical. Slower action and shorter rods are far more forgiving. Usually anglers use to spinning tackle have a hard time with proper casting motion, in lieu of snap casting typical with spinning rods. Unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket I suggest starting with Dobyns FR734C about $130 and learn to use your new highend reel using 12 lb Big Game mono line. Popular rod and easy to trade when you know exactly what you need. Tom Quote
