I have a 96 Stratos with a 150Johnson, 18ft.  This may sound like an odd question but I would LOVE to fish St. Clair however, for some reason I don't think this is enough boat for big water?  I have been Ky lake and Patoka in IN. but St. Clair can put up some nasty waves ive heard  Any thoughts? :-/

I grew up fishing Lake St Clair, both sides American & Canadian.  It's a shallow lake and storms do come up, but as a kid I fished it in a rented rowboat with a 6.5 elgin outboard.  I don't remember ever having any trouble with "rough seas" on that lake.

I have a 17.5 ft with a 50hp merc and I plan on fishing Lake St.Clair a lot this year.

Last year I fished Lake Erie a few times with no trouble at all.

Just keep close tabs on the weather forecast.

But beware cause it can get nasty very fast... with the lake being shallow it can produce some big swells and waves...

Thanks for the info guys

My fear of capsizing is GREATLY outweighed by my LUST for Giant ST clair Smallies. :)

Check the weather/wind and use common sense.  Maybe a decent marine radio just in case.

I agree.  I've seen alot smaller boats out there then 18ft.  Just use sense.

Many a nice muskie roaming those waters.

Sturgeon at St Mary's

I grew up fishing that lake several times a week from 5 to 20 years of age in small rowboats with limited horsepower. Unless global warming has changed that lake in the last 40 years you should have no problem, but always keep your eye to the weather.

Where fishing, Anchor Bay, Harsens, over to Wapole ?

Caught plenty of smallmouth in Lake Erie ( Rondo bay), but don't ever remember catching one in Lake St Clair. Dementia sets in at my age.
