Rodney Smith Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 I consistently read about the NRX 894C being tip heavy. It is also often mentioned as the gold standard for jig fishing. I have an Antares 70. Does anyone have that combo? If so, how is the balance? Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 19, 2020 Super User Posted September 19, 2020 So I don't have the NRX 894C yet but it's on my list. I do have the 853C with the 70A and they balance perfectly together. I think the complaint from people on 894 stems from the reel seat being about 2+ inches up from where the 853 and 854 sit. Plus they may be using a reel that is extremely light weight. It seems people want to pair the best/most expensive reel out there with this rod, which usually translates into a light reel that doesn't balance well with the rod > for example, the Daiwa Steez SV TWS, the Steez CT SV or the Shimano Aldebaran. Great reels but I wouldn't put one on a heavy stout rod. The 70A is a dream to fish though. I have yet to find a flaw other than the spool capacity. With 12lb Seaguar Invizx, I can almost empty the reel on a long cast. It palms well, it casts well, it's not too heavy, it has a lot of power for a small reel, it's hard to backlash, and it's smooth like no other. 1 Quote
Rodney Smith Posted September 19, 2020 Author Posted September 19, 2020 Yes, I feel the same way about the Antares. Maybe someone out that has the 894c/Antares and could post a pic of the balance point. Quote

I don't have that exact reel, but I do have some reels that are close in weight, a little lighter (Curado i) and slightly heavier (TD Zillion). I usually fish mine on a 2013 Metanium or an Aldebaran. The balance does not really bother me as you can see with my reel choices. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted September 19, 2020 Super User Posted September 19, 2020 I tried an OG zillion that is roughly an oz heavier when i had the 894. Balance was still bad and above the locking nut a ways. 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted September 19, 2020 Super User Posted September 19, 2020 Mine is on a NRX 852c and conquest 842c and it is heaven. It does not feel as good on my 903.....I have a MET on that one Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted September 20, 2020 Super User Posted September 20, 2020 I originally had a Chronarch MGL on mine (6.5oz) and went to a Bantam (7.6oz), and IMO that combo goes well together. The Antares is 7.8oz and should be even better to balance the 894... should be very enjoyable combo to fish. 1 Quote
