Dobyns 736cb glass vs Mojo 7'2" H glass vs Tatula 7'4" H Glass

Looking at a glass bladed jig rod to try out...wanted to hear people's opinion. I do run braid to a short leader and I have been fishing on a dobyns champ 734. I have no complaints for setting the hook, but near the boat i have lost a few due to them shaking them off...i do fish a lot of grass so i do like to do the ripping it out of grass deal. curious to hear the collective experience around these rods. i also realize the dobyns is 100 dollars more but would be willing if its worth it of course.

I can't speak for the Tatula but if it's like the Elite I tried it felt like a golf club to me when checking out in person. I found it awkward and heavy. Similar to you I had been using a Sierra 734c w/ braid to leader. I fish from a kayak in and wanted something different for the same reasons. I tried the Ark Tharp B Hittay and that rod is great other than micro guides so I sold it due to not liking a leader knot. I have not found a 736cb glass to try in person. However, I did get a 705cb glass which has been great for 3/8oz chatterbaits in grass on the kayak. If the 736cb glass loads like this, I would lean towards Dobyns first. Feels great since it is a composite and not super heavy in hand.

I had the Dobyns 736 Glass, it's great for chatterbaits and does pretty much load like the 705 Glass, but it's pretty heavy on the scales at 6.0 oz. Of course, Dobyns rods don't feel near as heavy in the hand as they weigh on the scales though, but it was still a little heavy for my liking, so I sold it.

I have a Champion 736CB and strangely a Tatula Elite 7-4 Bladed Jig rod as well.  The Champion is faster and just a bit more powerful than the Tatula.  The Champion is more neutrally balanced. The Elite, like all their models is short one guide and under stress, flexed over, the line hits the blank when you roll your wrist at all.  That bugs me because it's such an obvious flaw and would have been such an easy fix at the factory, Don't cheap out. Put the 10th guide on Daiwa!

 

I don't do St Croix.  The handle/grips are way to short and are a deal breaker. Good blanks, bad handle design.

I don't have a bladed jig specific rod anymore, I just throw them on my MH Conquest or Xtasy.

I know it’s not what you’re asking about but I’m using a bps cranking stick 7’-3” heavy and it rips chatterbaits through grass no problems at all.

I have the 736cb glass that is used for only bladed jigs. Absolutely love the rod. I fish a lot of grass.

So for those that have used the Dobyns glass rods - I am looking into either a 735 or 736 CB glass rod for my chatterbait fishing. 
 

Unfortunately there are no dealers anywhere near me (East of Toronto) - so I can’t feel them before purchasing...

 

I fish from a kayak and my chatterbaits are almost exclusively the 3/8 oz jackhammer.  While I do fish in and around grass I wouldn’t call it heavy cover or really thick for the most part. 
 

Based on that curious to get others opinions on whether the 735 (MH -1/4 to 1 oz) or 736 (H - 3/8 to 1&1/2 oz).

 

I may also use the rod for other things (lipless and/or spinnerbaits) but not more than 3/4 oz baits.

Scott, I have the 735 CB and have fished it a ton over the last few years.  Usually fish 1/2 oz. chatterbaits on it.  It is a little more stout then I like, but it has been a good rod for bladed jigs.  With that being said, I would for sure pick the 735 over the 736.  I fish 3/8 oz. chatters with a Quantum KVD Glass cranking rod that maxes Out at 3/8 oz. and love it.  Have caught many bass over 6 lbs. on it with no problems.   You do have to be a little careful to not load it hard while casting, but I really like that mushy feel.   I do not lose fish on this rod.
