DJ_28 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I just bought a 1988 19' Laser Bass Boat. I bought it as a project boat. It has a Suzuki 175 oil injected motor on it but it has a burned up piston. I'm not going to keep this motor on the boat. I'm going to put my Johnson GT 150 on it instead. Don't know enough about a Suzuki to try to work on it is my reasoning. I was hoping someone could give me some more info on the boat. It now has aluminium lids on the compartments. Not sure if came with them from the factory (most likely did giving Lasers racing history) Any info you may have on the boat or motor would be helpful. Thanks guys DJ Quote
CGH Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 You didn't say which model of the 19 footer you had so below is a brief of the 1988's that were 19 foot Three Modes Fit from 1988 Listed below (IBoats.com Source) 1988 Laser Boats TX 3800 Twin Console This Laser outboard bass boat has a fiberglass hull, is 19 feet long. The boat weighs approximately 1020 pounds with an empty fuel tank and without any gear or passengers. The maximum horsepower we have listed for this outboard boat is 185 hp . If repowering you will want to verify the max horsepower for safety and to make sure your insurance company will insure your boat. New engines are expensive so having the manual for your engine is a great investment. Despite the fiberglass hull on this bass boat, we recommend that the boat be kept dry and covered in order to preserve the value of the boat. Proper care and regular maintenance can help your craft stay nice and increase resale value. We have included some outboard engine information since a boat isn't much good without a good, reliable source of power. 1988 Laser Boats TX 3850 Single Console The 1988, 3850 Single Console is a 19 foot outboard boat. The weight of the boat is 1000 lbs. which does not include passengers, aftermarket boating accessories, or fuel. The max rated horsepower of this boat, as listed by the manufacturer, (according to records we have) is 185 hp . If you do not have the manual for your engine then we highly recommend that you get one as repowering is costly and it takes you off of the water. When repowering, it is best to verify this information for the sake of safety and to ensure that your insurance company will cover you. While this bass boat does have a hull made of fiberglass, it is beneficial to keep the boat clean and dry by covering it properly while not in use. Good maintenance and care can help your vessel stay in good condition and have a higher value at resale. Applicable engine information has been included below since a boat needs reliable power. 1988 Laser Boats TX 3880 Flippin This outboard bass boat is 19 feet long and weighs 990 (pounds dry). This weight does not account for passengers, fuel, or gear. The beam of this craft is 85 inches. The max horsepower for this boat on our records is 185 hp . If you choose to buy a replacement engine for your Laser 3880 Flippin boat, it is recommended by many, that you verify the max horsepower for your boat. This is because of safety reasons - as it would effect the insurability of your outboard boat. Be sure to have the manual for your engine handy, not only for your safety, but to save you money on repair costs. Your Laser fiberglass hulled boat can be kept in better condition by covering it properly when not in use. This will help to prolong its use and resale value. Proper maintenance and care (and winterization if needed) will also help maintain the usability and value of the craft. As outboard engine life also effects the value of a boat, we have included engine information as well. Mods.... ok Not ok I'm not sure See Below Here is a link at IBOATS to 5 pictures of a fast looking at least 1987 Laser 19 http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/marine_classifieds/view_photos.cgi?ad_id=453895&img=0&count=4 Quote
DJ_28 Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 Thanks alot for the info. Mine is the 3880 flippin. Thats part of the reason I bought this boat. It has alot of deck (front and rear) for an older boat but not alot of storage. Two really big rod boxes though. The boat has two built in battery boxes in the rear of the boat (one on each side) but nowhere to put a third. I want to put my 24v TM on it but not sure how to mount the third battery? Thanks again for thr great info. I want to learn as much as I can about this boat. DJ Quote
Super User cart7t Posted May 6, 2009 Super User Posted May 6, 2009 Very fast boats due to the tunnel V construction. If the waves are over about 2 feet, you'll be in for a vertebrae compressing ride. Also known to blow over if Horse-powered enough and the equipments design and ride characteristics aren't respected. Blow over as in You'll be alright with a 150 though. Go over to Scream and Fly, there are some guys more familiar with the brand over there. Quote
