The only head-to-head comparisons I have made with Dobyns rods was the Champ spinning to an Avid which I mentioned above in which the Champion was clearly superior in sensitivity and a 703 Dobyns Champion to a 843 GLX older series.  While the GLX was slightly lighter and more sensitive, it was appropriate for the $100 price difference between the rods.  Before switching to Dobyns, I only used Croix and Loomis rods.  The Champion XP is the right blend of performance and price for me.  It is more sensitive and a better rod overall IMO than the Avid which I owned 7 of at one time.  While I own a new GLX (warranty replacement) and it is fantastic, it is not $200 better than the Dobyns Champion.  I just won't spend much more than $200 on a rod.

Different strokes. I'd pay that difference everyday for the 16' GLX over a champ. Not knocking your 703 by any means but such a big fan of GLX spinners.

I have not fished it but holding the Fury in hand, it reminds of the St. Croix BassX.  The blanks seem similar.

@FishTank, I agree 100%.  Should have just bought the Mojo Bass.  The rod was just purchased as a spare/loaner.

Not many places are going to let you take tags off use a rod then say you don't like it and return it. Better off selling locally and then buying the mojo and paying the difference.

I've returned plenty of things without original packaging.  Keep your receipt.  Hang on to the tags, if you must.  Most bigger places have a 30 day return policy.

Best part about buying a Dobyns is they have a insanely active Facebook group where you can sell rods for top dollar and quick. Especially right now while Dobyns is experiencing shortages on most models.

If you want a company that holds their value very well it's hard to beat G Loomis, Shimano, Daiwa, St Croix, Megabass. They hold their value the best hands down from my experience.

I’ve lost more $$$ selling St Croix than any other brand.

Yes maybe Academy, BPS, etc. They only carry low-end rods around here. Most places are not going to let you buy a IMX-PRO, GLX and try it, take the tags off, use it and then exchange it.

Funny you mention GLX.  I returned one years ago to Gander Mtn. when it was still open.  Didn't care for it for what it cost, and bought an LTB instead. What's also funny is that the cork was dirty on the G. Loomis stuff from so many people handling them, and not being shrink wrapped.

@J Francho, I just called Scheel's and they said I could exchange it w/o the tags as long as I had my receipt.  :)

That's good customer service right there!  When I ran retail, it was more important to keep customers happy.  You can always resell, and recoup what you had in the inventory.  Exchanges are always easier than refunds.

@J Francho, Yes I was very happy and glad that I had them email me the receipt as I have a bad habit of throwing them away!  I'm going to swap it for a Mojo Bass 71MHF casting rod.

I would say the Sierra is more on par to the Mojo Bass in terms of sensitivity.
