Just getting back in to fishing after 15+ year layoff. Finally got the boat all squared away and running right. Asked my Dad if he wanted to join me last Sunday.

He's 79 years old, retired carpenter, taught me well (fishing, hunting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, cars/trucks, etc., etc., etc.). My Mom passed away 7 years ago, and about four years ago Dad got himself a "girlfriend." He had shoulder replacement surgery last spring. He walks a mile every day, does his shoulder PT daily, and probably has a better social life than I do!  : )

Picked him up at 8AM and headed to the lake. Temps have gone down in the past week...it rained for three straight days last Wed-Friday...water temps dropped from upper 70's the week before, down to upper 50's on Sunday. I figured it would be a tough bite.

We worked top water buzz baits and spinner-bait, moved around hitting spots. Caught just a few on white twister tail / lead-head. I caught one on a blue-fleck senko. Slow.

We tried for Crappie on a bridge support that produced just the day before...but they were not biting either. Think we finished with 5 small bass, two crappie and two bluegill.

Of course Dad hooked us up with his homemade deviled eggs, hard salami and cheese!  It was great to spend five hours with him...told me stories of fishing, family, working (owned his own company since 1966).

Great times on the water!!!

Catching fish aside, spending quality time with family is the best! Your father looks d**n good for 79 years old. Hard to beat being on the water with family and the quality time spent.

Was gonna say that's awesome but the dudes wearing a huskers shirt so I cannot support this post! .....just messing. My dad is 65 and retired...he worked most of his life in construction...namely for a company that builds oil refineries. He moved to what I would call the fishiest place here in Iowa but because of my parents age and how busy it is all summer where he lives we haven't fished together this year because of covid concerns. We are planning on changing that the first part of October. When I was a kid I didn't get along with my dad so I missed out on some things. As an adult I grew up, took my head out of my a#$ and started realizing he's a great guy...instead of crying about the wasted time I started enjoying our time together and now we are friends as much as we are father and son. Glad to see other guys with straight priorities.

Fished a few hours this morning with a friend and his 91 year old dad. Anytime you can share a boat with a 91 year old it is special. We had a good time but the fish were few. We hardly noticed!!

That's awesome. Worked with a guy for years and we fished together several times. He was in his 80s the last time and it was always a cool experience...fish or no fish.

Good to see! I'm the "Dad" in the fishing trips now with my son. Never know how many more hunting and fishing seasons are ahead of me so I make the most of both. I remember the trips that I took with my Dad.....should have been more. Boy that salami and cheese board looks good :) also noticed you got some tackle there.......its not the fish, its the FISHING. Nice pics and good post.    Dave

Great post. Good for you, spending time with your dad. Mine's been gone nine years now. I'd give anything to have one more trip with him.
