Super User WRB Posted September 22, 2020 Super User Posted September 22, 2020 Before The majority of reels were being mfr'd by Doyo brand names were private labeled for BPS, Cabela's. Now that step has been eliminated and D houses go direct. You the consumer become the quality control, defective reels are returned to the D house and they discard them. 3% defective product is considered the norm, the cost factored into selling price. Parts for these reels are non existing unless you buy one to scavenge. Tom Quote

Oh, I’m fine with it as well. I just want quality in manufacturing. The point of the post is trying to find out who the manufacturers actually are for proprietary branded items. This helps make a more informed decision on whether you want to purchase the item or not. Quote

USDM stuff usually has longer handles and deeper spools. JDM stuff can is often cheaper due to a favorable exchange rate of a strong dollar having more purchasing power. Sometimes the JDM version dosen't have an equivalent USDM version or the JDM version is just better. Think Scorpion MGL. It's the JDM Curado K but nicer. I got looking at JDM reels after finding out what it meant. What benefit do those ultra shallow spools have? Quote

What benefit do those ultra shallow spools have? Other than casting lighter baits better they can also provide lower startup inertia witch can help with short-medium range accuracy. Also most JDM offerings have only a slightly shallower spool than USDM counterparts. The ones with ultra shallow spools are usually made specifically for BFS. 1 Quote

It is a specialized bait caster with a shallow spool(about 45yds of 6lb mono), light weight spool(sub 10 grams) made to comfortably cast lures that weight 5 grams or less. The BFS rods for bass are usually marked UL- ML but they are not like a common rod in those power ratings. Most of them will have a soft tip allowing the angler to easily cast the weight, but then have a really good back bone allowing the fish to be fought.
