tlj96 Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Hi, this is my first post and just want to say hello. I've been a long time lurker and thought I'd finally make an account. Starting to get back into bass fishing after taking some time off from college / work. I'm from south Orange County and have been mostly fishing local lakes, but have been meaning to venture out to SD or LA. Just wanna also ask for a quick price check. I've had an older G Loomis GLX rod for awhile now. It's missing the 6th line guide from the top and some of the epoxy around the guides have slight cracks and probably need to be rewrapped. I'm still debating whether to buy some supplies from Mudhole and fix it up, or just sell as is. If anyone has a ballpark price for this rod, please let me know -- thanks! Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted September 14, 2020 Super User Posted September 14, 2020 Welcome to the forum - far as the price...GLX 642C MBR new runs $470. Get the parts, fix it up...it's a great rod. Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 14, 2020 Super User Posted September 14, 2020 Welcome to BR. Another option you have is to have all the guides replaced by a professional rod builder. OC has a few good local pro shops. Check in with Anglers Marine in Anaheim, they have a pro tackle shop and can refer you and evaluate your rod. Tom 1 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 14, 2020 Super User Posted September 14, 2020 Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ You can always venture into the BR Flea Market to see what a comparable rod may be selling for. Routinely older and even refurbished sticks can be a tricky sell. Unless a basshead is seeking a particular blank, resale value is often surprisingly less than original Msrp. If you like it, that rod, once repaired may be worth quote a bit more to you than what it may bring you; especially once you figure in the cost of quality components and then paying to have it re-wrapped, rather than doing yourself. Finally, I've redone a few sticks, nothing fancy. Just very basic wraps. It's not very complicated and there's plenty of how to info out there; you already mentioned my go to, Mudhole. Good Luck A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted September 14, 2020 Super User Posted September 14, 2020 Hello @tlj96from Northern California. Welcome to Bass Resource and the Forums! Regarding your GLX 842, unless you really want to make the repairs yourself, I’d give G Loomis a call for a cost comparison. It may be a warranty repair, or you may be given option for $50 no questions asked Loomis will send you a new rod. I can only speak for myself, but G Loomis Warranty Department has always treated me well under similar circumstances... 2 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 14, 2020 Super User Posted September 14, 2020 The charge is $100, but you get a new rod! Quote
tlj96 Posted September 14, 2020 Author Posted September 14, 2020 Thanks for the advice and warm welcomes, everyone. I think I'll try calling G Loomis and then decide what my best option is. I think the rod is from the 90s judging by the reel seat, but not entirely sure. I'm not particularly attached to the rod and fear new guides and rewrapping might cost more than the rod itself so I'm leaning on selling as is if I can find a buyer. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted September 14, 2020 Super User Posted September 14, 2020 Your rod is from the 90's and cost about $250 then. Are you the original owner? There isn't any rod warranty transfers to a second owner unless you have a certificate, Lomis didn't have that program 25 years ago. Tom Quote

The rod is way too good to try to do it yourself. Quote
