Tatsu Dave Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Leaving braid out of the discussion what is everyone happy with in a good clear fluro or hybrid fluro line? I worked up thru seaguar from red label to invizx and finally tatsu, happy with the tatsu if you use KVD line conditioner. The tatsu is the best I've found so far taking abrasion - sensitivity - line stretch - knot holding and overall diameter into account. Hearing about hybrid lines and wondered how they work as no experience with them. No interest in mono, used it for years and stretch/sensitivity don't work for me, is GY line one of the new hybrids?.......any on water experience and opinions will help. Gonna buy line to spool the reels this winter and looking at options, I will say the 10# tatsu is a good diameter (.010) and as invisible as possible and with pickerel teeth not counted, it's very abrasion resistant. Price is stiff but its what connects my rod/reel to the fish so whatever line costs its worth it if it works well. What say you?........... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 Tatsu is THE BOMB! 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 I tried several different FC lines and wasn't happy. I'm a Yo-Zuri Hybrid fan-boy. Strength-to-diameter ratio is great, seems to have good abrasion resistance and as long as you use KVD, it's very manageable. Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 I’ve never used straight FC, but I am pleased with the 8# and 12# YZH that I’ve been using. Two shots of KVD the night before and I’m good to go. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 Tatsu is the best but I am happy with Invizx. I use 12lb for most of my baitcasters. I also use 6lb FC but I like Trilene XL 100% FC for this application. Quote
Super User Teal Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 I just bought a small spool to go on my CRANKING rod, in 12 lb. Gotta spoil it up today will report back soon. No yo zuri experience here. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 Tatsu and YZH Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 Always wanted to try Tatsu, but I'm so happy with Sunline Sniper FC that I don't know if it's worth paying the extra coin. As far as non-fluoro lines go, I like YZH and Sufix Advance. Quote
MidwestBassAttack Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 No co-poly here.... Gamma Edge for my fluoro, Power Pro for my braid, Suffix Siege for my mono applications (cranks and jerks only). Quote
Tatsu Dave Posted September 12, 2020 Author Posted September 12, 2020 Well its not that I'm not happy with Tatsu.......heck I wouldn't have used for last three years if it didn't work better than anything I've yet tried. I had a couple suggestions to try one of the hybrid fluro/mono line to see what I thought and knew that asking on a site like this would give me a fair amount of real experiences. My common sense tells me I would compromise sensitivity and the low stretch hook sets but pick up less memory and spend less, the diameter would have to get a little bigger for same # test, the abrasion would interest me as we fish heavy cover and deal with pickerel teeth roughing up the line near the lure. I read the comments and opinions on TW for both hybrid lines mentioned and found a lot of opinions on how tough it is for abrasion. Thank you for the responses and opinions.....keep em' coming. Russ E Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 In my opinion, for bottom contact baits, there is no copoly line that can compare to good fluoro for sensitivity or abrasion resistance. My preference is sunline sniper. Suffix advance or McCoys mean green are my 2 favorite copoly lines. Both have good abrasion resistance and are pretty sensitive for copoly. Line memory is also not bad. I personally don't care for yozuri hybrid. In my hands it has very little sensitivity and the line memory is worse than most fluorocarbon lines. Quote

Dave As far as limpness, knot strength, and line management McCoy copoly is fantastic. It's probably the easiest handling line I've ever used. I don't usually use straight fl,uoro, but I do use McCoy straight and have had nothing but positive experiences with it. Quote
txchaser Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Sufix Advance is notable for being low-stretch. It appears that they put braid fibers into the extruder. It says HMPE on the label, but no one knows what that is. Same stuff as dyneema and spectra. Two things to be aware of 1) it is sized like big game, pay attention to diameter. 2) For some odd reason, the fish-n-fool/improved uni has far more impact strength than a SDJ knot on this line. Feels like about 50% difference. It has become my general purpose line. Still use tatsu for light presentations - hard to beat tatsu for that or open water. Quote
ike8120 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 I having been using KK Kovert fluorocarbon line and their copolymer line with out any complaints. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted September 13, 2020 Super User Posted September 13, 2020 I have been using Berkley Trilene Flurocarbon for the past few years, largely because I buy it at Bass Pro Shops every spring buy one get one free or Cabela's for half off which is one hell of a steal. I have had pretty much no issues with lines or knots breaking or bad memory, a uni knot works very well and that stuff is strong! I apply some KVD line conditioner every now and then and I've gotten a couple seasons on one reel (another one was new for this year, and the other I cut off and replaced late last season as it was getting low on the spool). My oldest son has been using Yo Zuri Hybrid, 12lb and 15lb and that's also some nice line. I think we spooled it up in June this year and it's been good all summer and no major memory issues. We also tried some P-Line Fluoroclear and that stuff had horrible memory and only lasted one trip before we replaced it. I can't quite justify the cost of Tatsu myself but one of these days I might have to try it as I keep hearing good things. But if you find it works for you, then by all means stick with it I just haven't had the need to switch. Quote
Big Swimbait Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 (edited) Since I am braid to leader on just about everything, a spool of Tatsu lasts a long time as leader material. That makes the cost a little easier to swallow. Plus using 10 ft at a time no KVD necessary. Edited September 14, 2020 by Big Swimbait addl info Quote
Tatsu Dave Posted September 14, 2020 Author Posted September 14, 2020 Well I've studied the suggested line's and considered what I would lose compared to the tatsu I use on every rig now. I will gain some stretch (I don't want that) I will loose some sensitivity (I really don't want that) it will in most cases be larger diameter (not a deal breaker but not desirable either) will the line sink like the fluro? (not as fast). OK I will save money and get a tad less memory but many guys still use KVD on hybrid lines as I do now with tatsu. I use spinning gear and the fluro works really well for me, never had a knot slip and abrasion resistance is awesome. That was the deciding factor for me.......we fish wood and vegetation solid up here and pickerel teeth do a number as well. Don't want to compromise on the abrasion factor at all. Price is always going to be the top negative, but for me it don't seem like that big a deal, I00yds on each spool and I use 5 reels so that's three 200yd spools every two years. About $45. a year for line that looks like I can't improve on or even equal at this point. I guess Tatso really is the Bomb for finesse fishing with spinning set-ups. Braid users wouldn't use it as a leader if it wasn't what they wanted the fish to see.........or in most cases not see. Thanks to all for opinions and experience's....I think I'll stay where I'm at for now. Dave Quote
