bassbandit2 Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 I'm sure this had been asked and answered. I'm looking to upgrade the drag washers in my Daiwa SS SV. Which one Is the correct one? I can get from Tackle Trap? Quote

Still going to be a light/finesse plastics and treble hook reel IMO. You need the main gear from a Steez or Zillion to accept the multi stack drag to get jig hookseting or power. If you're in the market for a new spool check out the Amo spools for those reels. They're $54 on Aliexpress. I have two and they cast far with no effort and are excellent into the wind. I have a review on the spool here. Avoid the Ray's Studio Long Cast spools. They don't brake enough in order 103 reels like the SS SV. http://www.tackletour.net/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=80168&start=45 I'll check it out. This is my plastics reel. Just was looking to increase drag when those bass dig into the weeds lol. It's the Amo spool good for weighted/unweighted soft plastics? It looks more like a BFS spool? I appreciate all your responses. Quote

They're very similar to the ZPI NRC PG spools. The bearing is very noisy on them even for being an ceramic but that is an easy fix. I just livd with mine. I don't mind some noise on the cast. Are you referring to the spools that aren't ported? Look like those one? Sorry I meant to attach this photo Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 you'll notice a little gain in drag power going to carbon tex but unless you get the 8:1 conversion /w the mutli stack drag, it's not going to be a winch or anything. It will be fine for sparse weeds, small eel grass patches and open water /w the single washer but that's about it's limits. Fairly certain you'll want the Carbontex Daiwa #1. https://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=898_651&products_id=2944 Quote

It comes with 3 washes, two look the same one different. All are smaller and thinner than the stock drag washer. Do I use more than one? Does the 8:1 conversion kit change the reel ratio to 8.1? Super User WRB Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 Stock drag and spool are excellent unless you just like to tinker with reel. More is achieved by more thumb pressure. Tom Quote

Yes, 8:1 conversion changes the ratio to 8:1. it's a brass gear set as well /w dog ear'd washers which help ten fold /w stopping power. It was the first upgrade I made to my SS SV when I had one a while ago. 1 minute ago, WRB said: Stock drag and spool are excellent unless you just like to tinker with reel. Can I use the 6.3 pinion gear or will that not work with the upgraded drive gear and stacked washers? Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Pinion and drive are always a set. If you like to tinker that’s one thing, Yes there are gains to be made, but 7# of drag is plenty for a bass reel 2 Quote

Nothing wrong with the SS SV spool itself...It just isn't a good match with the SS SV reel that it was designed for. Quote

The SSsv spool is the single most complained about spool in the 13 years daiwa has made sv spools. Its a good spool...if you change the inductor and the spring to make it a new a spool. If you like it, great. Most dont. Quote

I just replaced the original inductor with one I got from Tackle Trap, I didn't replace the spring though. I haven't taken it out, I will this week to see how it casts. Quote
