Super User Boomstick Posted September 12, 2020 Super User Posted September 12, 2020 So I bought myself a Garmin EchoMap UHD 93sv a few months back - great unit. Now I'm going to be shopping for fish finders for the kids kayaks which will be their Christmas present this year. I want to keep it around $500, maybe $600 tops. I also want to keep it to 7" because of how they will mount on the side tracks. I was thinking about the Garmin Stiker Plus 73sv which also has side imaging and we could also share waypoints. I might be able to find an EchoMap lus 73sv for about the same price too, but that's an older model so I imagine support might not be as good. For the most part the lack of maps isn't the worst thing if they're fishing with me, and we do fish a lot of small lakes where you can simply remember what the bottom looks like. But first, is there anything else I should consider? Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted September 12, 2020 Global Moderator Posted September 12, 2020 Around Black Friday time you should be able to pick and Echomap Plus unit up in your price range. 1 Quote

Or even the Plus when it was the current model, that's great! I think I paid $1000 with no tax or shipping for mine. 8 hours ago, Smalls said: Maybe adopting a few of us? LOL! I can only afford this because my house is fairly small - and thus doesn't break the bank. 1 Quote
b19000 Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Try the RayMarine Element 7HV. If you are patient they have been being offered in your price range fully equipped (e.g. Navionics, transducer and sonar). I think the lowest WestMarine let them go for was $499 last fathers day. Of course Ultimate Passage always seems to follow suit as well as BOE Marine. Can't beat RayMarine's 3 year warranty. On a kayak I would go with a Garmin STRIKER Plus 4. 1 Quote
