Super User Hammer 4 Posted September 11, 2020 Super User Posted September 11, 2020 Thinking about that still really ticks me off. The poor folks aboard that jet, and their families are always in my mind. Never forget 911. 3 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted September 11, 2020 Global Moderator Posted September 11, 2020 Just like @Hammer 4 said. Every time I think about what happened makes something in me boil. Never Never Forget. May God be with them all. Mike 4 Quote

Super User Koz Posted September 11, 2020 Super User Posted September 11, 2020 I'm not sure if I've mentioned this here before, but her is my 9/11 story. Some 8 or 9 months before 9/11 it was a busy morning at my hotel and I stepped behind the front desk to give my crew a hand checking people out. I remember one man in particular that morning. As part of the checkout process we always engage with guests in some chit chat and ask them about their stay with us. This guest wearing a cream colored, short sleeved dress shirt and dark pants. When I tried to engage him he stared back at me and said nothing. I thought he may have been displeased with something during his stay so I followed up with a question and he just glared at me. I handed him his receipt and told Mr. Atta to have a great day. Little did I know who Mohamed Atta was at that time. But I remember his glare. Perhaps I have distorted it over time, but I believe it was hatred in his eyes. He made enough of of an impression with that glare that I never forgot his name. My hotel was about 8 miles from the airport and my best guess is that he was in town scouting airport security and operations as a possible launching point for one of the terror cells. When the 9/11 attacks happened I had taken over a new property and that morning we had our annual Marriott inspection. Within a day or two the when the TV reported Atta's name a chill went down my spine. I immediately called my old hotel, told them to pull all the records and contact the FBI with the information. In an ironic twist I have another connection to the events of 9/11. Earlier in my career I was GM for another Marriott in Scarborough, Maine. On the night before 9/11 some of the hijackers stayed in the at the Comfort Inn there that was managed by one of my friends. 2 Quote

Super User gim Posted September 14, 2020 Super User Posted September 14, 2020 I'm really fascinated by the intelligence and investigation of it with the FBI and Bin Laden before, during, and after the the events. I recorded some documentaries on the History Channel and National Geographic that I'll be watching in the next couple weeks. Nat Geo has a documentary called Inside 9/11 that is really interesting. schplurg Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 I won't forget either, and like many I watched it happen. But it doesn't end there. I also won't forget how that event was used as an excuse to spy on Americans and "illegally" overthrow a sovereign nation that had nothing at all to do with it. Remember all of the surveillance and security cameras on every street corner before 9/11? Ya, me either. Remember how many of our youngsters died in Iraq for no reason based on fake intel (someone mentioned propaganda, oops I mean "FBI intelligence" up-thread)? I do, over 4,400. They died for nothing at all. 32,000 were also wounded, and who knows how many suffer from PTSD and other ailments. I applaud and am tearfully grateful for the brave people who rose to the occasion: firefighters, police and many others (I don't like the term First Responder, it makes no sense to me). American citizens are awesome and so are the soldiers who did their jobs. But the government is a lying POS. Never forget that either. Sorry to be a little negative but it isn't that simple to me - Bruce, waving flags - it's bullcrap. I'm still angry at all of it. And no we are no longer united, not like we were then. /rant 1 Quote
